The Veil

The Veil is the name of a council made up of highly skilled Arcanists from all around Einya. Legally they don't hold any political power, but since the most powerful arcanists of the world are part of the Veil, they still are highly influential in international decision-making, especially in matters relating to the Arcane Arts. Members of the Veil are often called Archmages or Veiled Ones, although they just call themselves "Council members".

Hidden in plain sight

Historically, the Veil's members were secret, so when they met with other organizations, there was always a veil separating the council members from the other attendees. However, after the Schools lost power, the mysticism around the Arcane Arts faded away and so did the veil. But the name of the organization stuck with them and so it has until now.
Unbeknownst to most people, though, The Veil is quite an apt name for the organization. Even though they have a public agenda (researching the Arcane Arts and advising the School and the governments about these matters), they also have a secret one. They, together with the leaders of the White Eye and a handful other people, are the only ones that are aware of the existance of other inhabited planets in the universe.
And so they are in a constant struggle to prevent other factions from controlling too much information from the other worls in order to keep Einya stable. Additionally, by recruiting all top arcanists in the world, and asking for their loyalty, they try to keep the power balance between nations intact. Some say that not even the full member list is public, and that there are powerful arcanists that are Veiled Ones in secret.

Membership

There is no way to apply for membership. Instead, the Veiled Ones select, interview, test, and accept new members by unanimous agreement. Nationality and political affinities are not considered: only skill in the Arcane Arts is considered. From their point of view, being highly skilled in them gives arcanists a mind that's open enough to be part of such an organization.
