Aushudore Primer

A world shaped by magic, and planar events. And as such magic is common, but so are the dangers but more importantly the rewards. With lands ruled by dragons, endless deserts and seas that fade into elemental planes and great cities built through magic. There is something that is bound to strike interest. But despite all of this magic and possibility most live in the Corobron Coast and the regions directly surrounding it. And with the recent The Planar Blight teleportation magic no longer works, which has made long distance travel much more difficult. And people are willing to pay for any means that improves or speeds up travel and transportation.

Places of Interest

Most of the major kingdoms and city are within the Corobron Coast a stretch of land between the Black Mountains and Corobron Expanse, that stretches from the Kingdom of Veven in the north to the White Peaks in the south.   Outside of the Corobron Coast, the other major population areas are the Aventyr Region, and the lands to the East.

Qi

The largest city in the Corobron Coast but following the Planar Blight its population was cut in half, but is still the largest city in the region. Qi is also known as the City of Adventures, and is known for its diverse population, and many adventuring guilds.

Parsantium

At the bottom of the Corobron Coast, Parsantium is one of the few cities that can rival Qi.

Athkatla

Known as the city of coin, Athkatla, is not part of the Corobron Coast but does extensively trade with the region. It is home to many pirates, criminal organizations, and The Bar, and as such it is a surprisingly wealthy city. As it also controls a lot of the trade coming from the east to the Corobron Coast.   Athkatlaks sailors are also known for the ability to navigate through elemental rifts in the seas, which allows them to trade more freely than most people. But travel like this is risky.

Kingdom of Veven

The Kingdom of Veven, is the Corobron Coasts primary source of foodstuffs and thus is a very wealthy country. Leading to the saying, ‘As wealthy as a Veven Merchant’.

Kingdom of Iscobal

Known for their powerful navy and shipbuilding expertise, the Kingdom of Iscobal rules the Corobron Expanse.

Dutchy of Ayrith

While Veven is wealthy, few places have individuals as wealthy as Duchy of Ayrith. The center of the banking for most of the world, if a coin is in your pocket it probably came from here or at least has passed through. And importantly a poor “Ayrithian is only poor in Ayrith”.

Argiir Ascendency

Formally the Kingdom of Navalune, in 1133 the head of the Daryn Trading Company revealed that she was the heir to the former Argiir Empire from 3000 years ago, and managed to take control of the Kingdom along with several surrounding city states. Eventually becoming the Argiir Ascendency, the largest kingdom by land and population but most of their land is not exactly ideal for farming.

Dwarvish City States

Along the front range of the Black Mountains there are several large dwarvish cities that supply most of the ore coming out of the mountains. These include Vil Faldir, Boldor, and Vanduar.

Elvish Kingdoms

The Elvish kingdoms, are across two major forests the Thannor and Velarswood. The Kingdom of Navalune controls the entire Thannor Forrest, and is primarily home to the high elves. The kingdomS of Thalore and Alari, share the Valarswood, and are home primarily to the wood elves, and sun elves.   On an the Island of Trondheim south of Velarswood, there is a monetary of sun elves known for their research and martial prowess.

Far East

Too the east, this region is sparsely populated, except for a few denser cities and towns. Sailors and pirates are common, but so are many exotic trade goods and races.

Vaekavar

Also known as the dragon lands, this large expanse to the south east of the Farsay Sea, is ruled by various dragons. Despite this some humanoid races do enjoy living there, but there are few humans or elves that fall into the category. But if exotic material or magical implements are what you want this is probably the place to find it, as dragon tend to be pretty good at helping make these items.

The South

The the south of the White Peaks, this land despite it latitude and being surrounding by seas, is constantly covered in snow and ice. And you best be prepared if you plan to leave any of the towns that boarder it.

Major Organizations

As the countries of the Aushudore often are changing, and magic is quite potent, there are many guilds and other organizations that hold tremendous power throughout the world.   Shields of Aleanad
The Bar
QAAG
Vault Complex
University of Qi
Beyond these there are various guilds in most major cities and countries representing various things, if there is particular type of guild you may want to be a member of, let the DM know.

Races of Aushudore

Throughout the world, Humans, elves, dwarves, halflings, half-elfs, and half-orcs then to be a common sight in just about any city, even drow, although in the case of Drow they are still looked at with suspicion. Beyond these tieflings, vedalken, aasimar, gnomes, firbolgs and genasi, while not as common are not surprising to people when they show up, especially in the dragon lands, and Far East, but even any major city won’t question them.   Other races do exist and do mingle with the rest of the world but are just not as common. Tortles can often be seen in ports, Kalashar have an entire kingdom but rarely leave it, Tritons rule over parts of the sea and rarely come on land. And much of the Goliath population was killed in a series of attacks from a dragon in the Black Mountains.   Depending on your races, and sub race that may decide where you are from.

Character Creations

Know that you know the basics of the world of Aushudore, you now need to make a character. This will be done on DnDBeyond, and will be done with point buy and rolling for health, and xp tracking for leveling. To create a character, don’t start with race or class, decide what your characters motivations are. And then choose a race and class combination that may be interesting for that. And then follow the instructions on DnDBeyond. Make sure to fill in the character details such as backstory and goals, as these are what will drive this campaign not some big bad or large plot. The plot for this campaign is the characters, so don’t just come in with I am a generic orphan murder hobo as those don’t allow the DM to make any useful character hooks.   When selecting a background for your character in dnd beyond you will notice a lot of specific faction ones from Ravnica, and other settings, for some of these there are equivalent organization in this world so you may be able to take that background still just under a different name. For example if you wanted to use the Dimir operative background, the Stewards of the Forbidden in Athkatla is partially based on Dimir. And do keep in mind being part of a guild or organization will open up many character story opportunities.   And make sure to know where your character is from, and for certain races there are only a few options. Make sure you ask your DM.   You will begin at level 5 with standard starting equipment plus 500 gp which can be spent on normal items.

Restrictions

There are however a few restrictions. The big ones being no war forged, no artificers, and no changelings. Most other races and classes are allowed, except for Druids and Warlocks as they are very uncommon in Aushsudore so ask the DM first and I may or may not approve. And finally the lucky and elven accuracy feats are banned, for obvious reasons.

Campaign Intro

One of your characters, or group, having recently discovered a large collection of Soarwood trees in the Black Mountains. Which you have heard rumors of prior to this venture into the forest. These rumors imply that these trees became more attuned to magic following the recent Planar events, and thus can be more easily imbued with magic. And are potentially even capable of making flying ships, or so some believe.   You will begin In the northern black mountains not far from Athkatla, about a tenday or so.   As for characters it is recommended to start that there is at least one person with survival, a full caster capable of doing the imbuing, and someone with crafting experience would be bonus.   Additionally some home rule notes

Resurrection

Reviving people is not easy in Aushudore but is possible, spells with a limited time such as revivify are you best bet but are not guaranteed to work, a check of sorts will be required. This check is simply the casters ability modifier + d20, and must exceed a 10. This dc can be modified based on how many deaths the character has had.

Resting

Standard short and long rests do apply. Except when you take a critical or end you turn at 0 hp. When one of these things happens, roll a d10 and subtract your constitution modifier, minimum 0. This number is the number of normal long rests you need before you get the full benefit of a long rest, additionally during this time you cannot take 1 hour short rests, instead you take them during long rest. So for example if you take a critical and rolled an 8, and your con is +2, you would have to wait 6 days before being able to benefit from a long rest. So on the 7th long rest you could benefit. This does not effect sleep or exhaustion, those still treat 8 hour rests as normal.

Downtime

Due to the nature of this style of campaign there will be ample downtime activities, see a partial list here Downtime Activities. Others from the players handbook, DMs Guide, or xanathar's guide to everything are also possible. At start of each session I will let you know how much time has passed and will spend around 10-15 minutes dealing with this, and this can include buying basic stuff. But if travel through the mountains or dangerous areas is required that may require actually running it.

Leveling and XP

XP will be tracked but not awarded based on monster xp, unless it is a real challenge like a dragon. So no farming bears for xp. But there will be xp available for social interactions, achieving milestones, and most importantly completing character related story quests. Or another way of putting it, if you are moving your character forward there is xp available. And depending on the type of quest you may even know the value of this xp in advance. Also there will just be xp for being at a session.
