The Cuenar (singular,
Cuena) are greater
Duranni, servants of
Tólivar-Shûl who created
Cimril Arnoth according to his plan. There are twelve Cuenar, six “male” (Lords of the Cuenar) and six “female” (Queens of the Cuenar).
Below are the names of the Cuenar as they were known by the
Tenir in
Cuenaloth. Throughout the rest of
Cimril Arnoth, they were also called by other names, from
Suradárin, such as "Yllanna" for Avärien, and they have myriad names among
Men.
Lords of the Cuenar
Name(s) |
Description |
Galdúr (Míthura) |
Wisest of the Cuenar, Galdúr best understands the will of Tolivar-Shûl and is chief of the Cuenar. As such, the others often defer to him and his judgment though he sees himself as only first among equals. Galdúr is lord of the sky and air. When seated in his place in Cuenaloth, nothing on the surface of Arn can escape his sight, even that which occurs in dwellings. The delving of the Dwarves and the Sindaeri and others often goes unobserved. The great eagles are his foremost and greatest servants. Galdúr is the husband of Míthia. He is often referred to as the Lord of Aaroth (and all who dwell within). Galdúr is also worshipped by some Men, as Míthura. |
Belethör |
He loves the earth and stone and craftsmanship. At Galdúr’s request, to help the Tenir survive the relentless plagues and onslaught of Ahriman, Belethör created the Balgrim, and Tolivar-Shûl gave them life. Belethör is the patron of all clever crafts and other works of manual skill, such as jewelry, smithing, or engineering. In the First Age, when the Elves had gathered in Cuenaloth, he spent a lot of time with Mórrelin Gállomier, who later became the greatest of the Elves at such things. The Dwarves worship Belethör as their god. He is the husband of Avärien. |
Dúrhenos |
Lord of the sea, the lakes and the rivers. He knows all that happens within his watery demesne. In fact, through his many Nessar and his waters, very little on Arn escapes his notice. |
Hador (Degnos) |
Hador is the shepherd of the dead. He dwells in the great Halls of Degnos. also known as the Halls of the Dead. Among Men, Hador is commonly called Degnos, after the name of his home. |
