Quasqueton Room #02 - Kitchen
Who left that dish out?
"The sound of squeaking is unnerving enough, but to see rats the size of dogs... that's too much"
Purpose / Function
The food preparation area for the complex is a very long room with a variety of details.
At the southwest corner of the room are two cooking pits, each large enough to cook an animal as large as a deer.
One of the pits is slightly larger than the other, but both are about 3 feet in depth. The pits are full of ash and charred remains of cooking fuel.
A chimney leads upward. but its small size prevents further investigation. Long tables line each wall, and there are scattered containers on them, some upturned, with spilt contents moldering on the tabletop. There are spoiled pieces of food all around, and the smell in the room is very uninviting.
One chunk of mouldy cheese is particularly noxious. as a fuzzy green growth covers its entirety.
Hanging from above are a variety of utensils, and some other of these are scattered about on the floor of the room. These are nothing more than pots and pans of various sizes, although there is a large cast-iron kettle suspended from the ceiling by a thick chain. The kettle is empty.
Design
This room is seventy feet long, ten feet high, and ten feet wide. The kitchen was designed for fast work and has one wall lined with counters for food preperation, and an area devoted to cooking.
Entries
There are two entrances, one at each end of the room. Both lead into the hallway. The east entrance faces the door to Room #3 - Dining Room while the north exit leads into a hallway.
Sensory & Appearance
When opening the door, there is no light, but from the torch. A wave of rancid foodstuffs hit your nostrils. There are several pieces of food just rotting away.
Denizens
1d6+1 Giant Rats were discovered here
Contents & Furnishings
Hanging from above are a variety of utensils, the rest are scattered about. There is nothing else of interestest.
Valuables
A Gold Ring worth 10 Gold Pieces is found by the cutting board.
Hazards & Traps
The food has gone well beyond edible and the floor is infested with giant rats.
Alterations
No alterations have been made as of yet, but the guild will need to renovate the kitchen due to the Rat, Giant infestation.
Architecture
The features match the rest of the stronghold, with skillfully cut walls that were dug into the side of a hidden mountain.
Even with the torches lit, and the fire going in the cooking pits, the damp black walls reflect the light strangly

History
Based on recovered journals, this kitchen was ran mostly by Barbarian slaves Rogahn the Fearless and his followers caputred during their conflicts.
From the journals, recovered, it's described quite planely their distaist for the Barbarian tribes, and would often force captured warriors into indentured servitude to humiliate them instead of giving them an honorable death.

Tourism
Should the kitchen ever be repurposed, the massive cooking pits might be a sight to see at full blast. The room was clearly meant to feed an army, and with an army of halflings at the helm, it should be quite a sight!
