1.2 - The Finding of Potential Guardians
Identifying a Potential Guardian
The Call of Destiny
One of the identifiers, in the Earthly Realm of Ancient Power, is destiny and is most often the identifier used.
Many Guardians are identified by their possession of unique characteristics or ancient bloodline.
Unique characteristics distinguish them from others. These traits are often those that show up throughout the person’s life. These traits can reveal whether one has potential to protect children. Without realizing it, these individuals are chosen by fate or a higher power who guides the Guardians to where they need to be.
Those with magical bloodlines aren’t automatically chosen unless something happened that a prophecy was foretold before their births, sometimes before they’re even in the womb.
Identiying Characteristics of the Light
Potential candidates may go into the second category of identities.
These people exhibit qualities that are essential for protecting and caring for children. This includes Selflessness, Courage, Love, and many more. For candidates who are identified this way, their actions spoke louder than words and they have demonstrated their commitment to protect the innocents of this world, including young minds and hearts.
Unique Abilities and Talents
Another, but not last, way to identify candidates is to find those with a unique set of abilities or talents that could contribute to the Guardians of Childhood's mission.
For this identifier, the existing members look for someone whose skills complement the team or add something that the team doesn’t have. Adding something that brings children something more to either an existing part of a Guardian or something that adds to the overall strength and effectiveness of the team isn’t easy.
Magical Beacon/Birth
Sometimes, those who don’t seem magical are. These people would typically go unnoticed by the mystical community until such time that their powers manifest themselves.
If powerful enough, a baby birth will be known to the magical world.
These people may have an aura seen only by the mystical community that first is seen at birth.
This is the least often used way to identify someone magical but it is sometimes great at identifying Guardians from birth.
The selection process is a multi-step process that could involve these steps. The whole process is confidential though so not even this book lists the entire process.
Observations/Stories from Mystical Community
The current Guardians often don’t go into the field and observe. This means nothing as stories of potential candidates make their way directly to the Collective Congress or just the Guardians of Childhood. Many species report back on behavior if required.
If the Guardians love what is heard, they may either go on a observation trip or meet the candidate somewhere.
Most potential candidates are not even aware that they are being considered as the Guardians discreetly evaluate them.
Tests and Trials
One of the next steps, after a potential Guardian is identified, might be to make them prove their worthiness. It might be a series of tests or just an interview.
If multiple tests are in order, it is because the Guardians wish to absolutely ensure that the potential candidate will be able to measure up to the title of Guardian.
Although it is most often an interview process.
As The Sun Rises, So Does The Moon
For those people who cannot fit into other selection categories, this is that category.
While all Guardians must choose to accept or reject their destiny, some may need help finding their way.
Or they may need some encouragement, support, and assurance.
Or they may want time to process new information.
Acceptance of Being Guardian
If a candidate successfully proves themselves through their actions and trials, they may be formally acknowledged and accepted as a Guardian.
Candidates are asked to answer the question: Will you answer the call of being a Guardian?
If they say yes or anything that is a yea, the Guardians will go straight into the ritual AKA special ceremony of actually becoming a Guardian that directly accompanies a yes.
But if the answer is no, the candidate will be able to go back to their lives while wondering how much good they could've done if they had said yes. Second chances are rare in life, even more so when choosing to or not to become a Guardian is asked a second time.
