The Hateful Desire

The religious practices within Charnelism and the way they conduct themselves are barbaric and savage when compared to the other branches of the Temple of the Seven Signs. Ritualistic sacrifices are standard practices amongst the Temple of its branches, in ceremonial offerings. Charnelites in comparison turn these into cannibalistic blood orgies by their Vestals decree.   These bestial traditions Charnalism and its Covens conduct and exonerate are installed into them at a tentative young age. The would-be Charnelite undergoes a traumatic metamorphosis known as the Hateful Desire. A series of trials that vary between coven to coven at the discretion of its Mistress and Vestals. Inducting the adolescent into the ways of the god of pain and murder. Ritual sacrifices, cannibalism, torture and bouts of self-mutilation to prove ones devotion to the lord of slaughter. However, one consistent is the final act to complete the Hateful Desire.   This final task occurs with the coming-of-age ritual, and can only be performed if they have completed all of the trials of the Hateful Desire. It is the most infamous, and most well-known of the process. The adolescent is taken by a Vestral to have their teeth sharpened, this is the tell-tale sign of someone who has completed the trial's, and is an agonising process. Conducted in front of the assembled Coven, the adolescent used a chisel, no anaesthetic or pain relief, just pure grit and elbow grease as they perform this act upon themselves. This act is seen as the purest demonstration of devotion, the agony and pain inflicted upon themselves is a declaration of Charnels acceptance of their submission unto him. Sharpened teeth are regarded as a sign of beauty amongst the Charnelites and a mark of prestige to have undergone the ritual.
