Terranian Species in The Garden that Burned | World Anvil

Terranian

Brief Overview

The Terranians are a humanoid elemental species that are broken down into 3 ethnicities which are individually capable of Geomancy, Agromancy, and sometimes even Alloymancy. In rare cases a Terranian can manipulate and create cryssals and gems, however, this is more commonly known as a Kyevitahl. Their species stems from the Elematiis race, and are well known as the most intricate builders in modern-day Eden.

General Overview

The Terranians, like most of the Elematiis, originated as humans that evolved over time through the exposure of the Tari in the atmosphere. A "god particle" left behind by a massive explosion created by the power of two different deities colliding in combat during the War of Gods.
Physically, Terranians are one of the strongest races walking Birtham, rivaled only by the Valkorri due to the fact they are also a larger and sturdier race of Elematiis. They are a strong people who take pride in their kingdom's unity, as well as their colorful history.
Most Terranians see themselves as a little piece of Eden that has broken off a will of its own, choosing to preserve the nature around them to the best of their abilities. They're typically friendly people given that their kingdom is a central trading hub, and they happily interact with most races in a hospitable manner. The only exclusion to the previous statement would be the Aireai. Terranians and Aireai do not normally get along and carry a somewhat racist disposition toward one another due to the history of bloodshed shared between them.

Basic Information

Anatomy

They have a humanoid physique with rocky skin that resembles a dense, rough exterior similar to the bark of oak. The exception to the previous statement are the smooth-skins, which are Fyrnkiin, the Aeskiin, or an Edenkiin that has a genetic mutation which only surfaces here and there throughout different generations. Their muscles are dense but naturally stretched making their limbs slightly longer than the other Elematiis. Because of that density, Terranian's are typically more muscular and curvy in terms of physical build.
Each type of Terranian has a different material that grows from their shoulders and in their heels used for both protection and sensing tremors below their feet. Though they can move Eden with their gifts, they often dig and mine with their hands. As a result, they have developed granite-like fingernails. Below is each individual Terranian ethnicities anatomy described in better detail.
Edenkiin
  • Complexion: Tanned, light/dark browns.
  • Hair colors: Brown, black, red, orange.

  • Shoubouls: Exchanged for Vynlimbs. Softer, malleable, 20-foot range, made from plant fiber/tari material.
  • Heelbouls: Softer, malleable, less capable of tremor sense. lessens fall impact. Plant fiber/tari material.
  • Elemancy ability: Agromancy.

Aeskiin
  • Complexion: Tan, brown, beige, ash brown.

  • Elemancy ability: Alloymancy.

Genetics and Reproduction

Terranians reproduce through sexual intercourse. Their pregnancy can last between 11-12 months and birth usually requires assistance.

Growth Rate & Stages

Each individual ethnicity of Terranian functions a little different in their physical growth, however, their lifespan on average is the same and is as defined in the table below.
Infant Toddler Child Teen Y.A Adult Mid-Aged Elder
0 - 2 2 - 4 5 - 12 13 - 19 20 - 120 120 - 180 180 - 230 230 - 280

Fyrnkiin
Infant (Fibrous skin textures, soft like petals and softened carapace), Tot (Toddler, carapace begins growth of small plants), Child (Plants begin to emerge from carapace, potentially other places), Teen (carapace overgrowth), Adult, Elder (inability to transfer nutrients efficiently through their body, wilting overgrowth).
Aeskiin
Infant (not documented.) Tot (not documented), Child (Solid carapace, smooth skin), Teen (unbreaking carapace, all teeth and bones are abnormally strong.) Adult, Elder (Much slower in comparison to other Terranian ethnicities.)

Ecology and Habitats

Terranians prefer a mix of mountainous expanses, and heavily forested areas. They are best when involved with mining and building houses from stone that they compact themselves by bending it at will. The level of skill varies on how well trained the Terranian is, but most average Terranians can build a structurally sound two-story home, and mine well formed tunnels without collapsing them.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Terranians needs vary depending on the ethnicity, though the odd one out is the Fyrnkiin requiring photosynthesis to survive. Below is a more detailed explanation of Terranian needs.

Edenkiin Fyrnkiin Aeskiin
Grains, proteins, fats, greens, dairy's Sonlight, clean water, rich nutrients Grains, proteins, fats, mineral, heavy iron intake
The Edenkiin and Fyrnkiin work in a symbiotic relationship in order to gather and store their foods. The Edenkiin hunt, farm livestock, and forage, while the Fyrnkiin grow the vegetable, herbs, fruits, and spices. The Fyrnkiin use their pollens to distract natural predators from the food storage warehouses, while the incredibly enriched waste that the Edenkiin excrete once their body has processed their last meal is delivered to the Fyrnkiin, diluted, and mixed into the soil where they root at night.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Necromancers seek Terranian Edenkiin skeletons for the durability of their bones, and the unique material that their Heelbouls are made from.
The Fyrnkiin are sought out for purchase of their pollen or potential new flora samples grown off of their bodies.
Aeskiin are rare and wanted by collectors and handlers.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

They are located mainly around the midlands, and in Terran.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Terranian's are able to tremor sense up to 30-feet all around them through their heels, are exceptionally strong, and can manipulate earth, plants, or metal depending on ethnicity.

Civilization and Culture

Beauty Ideals

All Terranians are thicker, muscular looking people with a curvy set physique. This is commonly considered attractive to Terranians. The true ideals, however, are on more of a broad spectrum, as this varies on the ethnicity of the Terranian in question. Each ethnicity has slightly differing tastes when it comes to their beauty ideals.

Courtship Ideals

The Terranian's are capable people that are proud of their military accomplishments throughout history. As such, when a lady feels she is ready to be courted she crafts herself a sheath and wears it empty, awaiting a warrior to place a blade within. If a blade is placed the lady is then given the option to agree to her suitor or challenge him to a dual for the right to her hand. The lady may choose a champion or family member to fight in her stead, however, most full-blooded Terranian women prefer to stand their own ground in order to test the worth of their potential mate in combat.
If an empty sheath is seen on the hip of a man, the same intent will be assumed. This allows others with the same sexual prefrences to understand that they are seeking a partner and take their shot at courting him by placing a blade in his sheath.

Relationship Ideals

It's traditional for both Edenkiin and Aeskiin Terranians to venture to the Geode mines in Geodemawvis, Terran so they can split up and mine a precious gem, mineral, or metal that calls to them in order to gift to their lover. During the bonding ceremony, the partners exchange what they found with one another and have a specialist from a Naturin temple called a Druis embed the new material into their Shoubouls as an ornament. For differing ethnicity's of Terranian's the ceremony is altered slightly as Fyrnkiin graft flowers, herbs, and vines into one another whereas Aeskiin specifically use either gemstones or metals.
It's a bad omen if the material being used is damaged or wont take to the shoubouls, or vynlimbs. It is said that if the material doesn't resonate with their bonding partner as well, that perhaps it wasn't mean to be. This ceremony can only ever be done in the daytime, traditionally around Noon. This applies to all Terranian ethnicities, however, Fyrnkiin prefer to perform this ceremony on a sonny day so that all attending Fyrnkiin are at their best.
Each partner in the couple is regarded henceforth as equal. Two parts of one entity that should actively be working to improve the overall joy of this new life, which each partner now shares. They refer to one another as either their Kiita (wife), Kiito (husband), Kaanat (partner), or Kiin (family). Their inlaws are called "bound brother," or "bound sister," etc... And they are treated as kiin regarless of their lack of blood relation.

Average Technological Level

Vis-Sphere, or VS
A seers orb reverse engineered to record events up to 40ft around them. A civilian VS is only able to record up to 15 minutes of content, however, a military VS can store over 2 hours of content. They are replayed in 3D full-color using light and are activated by verbal cues, but they can only store one recorded instance at a time.
Pic-Cube, or PC
A palm-sized cube that is able to fire off large bursts of light that capture everything happening around it and imprint it into its center. To use, you must also have a Flash stone. Set the scene in the immediate 10ft from the cube as desired, tap the sphere twice to engage the imprint sequence, and throw the Flash stone directly at the cube. It will then use the light to place the nearby image inside itself. The Flash stone will be expended. Captured images will appear on the faces of the Vis-Cube and can either be stored permanently on the Vis-Cube, or printed by running an empty scroll through the slot located at the top of the cube.
Kine Gauntlets
A specialized pair of gauntlets that are designed to make mining easier for Terranians, Each bracer is capable of absorbing the kinetic energy of each strike and stores it to be released when the palm dial is twisted. It saves the miners a lot of energy.
Kine Weapons
Weapons capable of absorbing kinetic energy on each swing, which is stored to be released when the somatic set trigger is met. These weapons are only sold to members of the Terranian military considered to be a Stoneblade, or higher.
Wrist-mag
A magnet strapped to a band made from Rhibear hide that Terranian miners use the sense out metals.
Cryssals, or Crys
Crystalized formations sculpted into a fragile form and enchanted for various uses. They are broken in order to activate, and can function as healing crys, explosive crys, hurricane crys, etc..

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Common, Elemat, Terrania.

Common Dress Code

Their clothing styles vary, however, you generally don't see a Terranian wear anything that would cover its shoulbouls, or its feet.

Common Taboos

Edenkiin
  • Edenkiin do not pollute. If they see someone polluting they will either interfere, or report the incident to any nearby Stoneblades.
  • If they see something that is considered a natural geographical formation that has depreciated or been damaged/vandalized they will repair/clean it. No questions asked. It is considered a disrespect to both Irde and Myamya to leave it in such disrepair.
  • They do not wear shoes.
  • They value their strength as a people and consider the use of things like poisons, paralytic agents, toxic gasses, and oils for their weapons forbidden. Instead preferring to "fight fairly."
  • They don't fly. Ever. They do not like it when their feet leave the ground, this makes them feel half blind due to the loss of their ability to tremor sense.
  • They do not set sail after boarding a ship until they have had a chance to tether themselves to the mast. This protects them from falling overboard and sinking too quickly due to their weight.
Fyrnkiin
  • Fyrnkiin generally dislike causing unnecessary harm to plants or beasts, and will look down on those who do.
  • It is forbidden to cut the Vynlimb of another Fyrnkiin, this is looked at as the same as harming a plant or beast.
  • Grafting on an unwilling Fyrnkiin is highly forbidden and can result in the guilty Fyrnkiin being banished from their home forest.
  • The find it terrifying to place their dead in Terrans wall, they fear the soul of their loved ones will take longer to exit the wall because they'll have to grow through the stone.
  • They do not cover their arms or feet.
  • You will rarely see a Fyrnkiin consuming meat. Most of them actually have very sensitive stomachs that aren't designed to digest much more than plants and soups. It'll usually cause some serious indigestion.
Aeskiin Not enough data collected to speculate. Too few Aeskiin exist at this time.

History

The Terranian's like the rest of the Elematiis, originated as humans that evolved through exposure to the Tari particles lingering in the atmosphere. After the "Cleanse" (The war against the remnants of humanity), the declaration of becoming a whole new species was not enough for the new people of Eden. They craved diversity and their difference of opinion caused the Elematiis to branch off into four factions, the Terranian's being one of such factions. In the midst of settling their new land in central Birtham, another faction, the Aireai, started a 130 year war against the Terranian's. In this time, the Tari had taken hold and altered them genetically in accordance to their surroundings and natural habitats and the Terranians claimed themselves as a separate race of Elematiis. They then started a trade route with Aque in order to send rare exports to Harjmonia, the Aqueans capitol, for next to nothing with the promise of continual deals and discounts with the condition of immediate alliance and a peace treaty. Aque formally agreed and with the Aqueans allied the Aireai fell back, giving the war riddled Terranian's their long awaited peace and the claim to their land became undisputed. At this time Eike Folden, the lead commander of the Terranian's front line forces rose up as newly appointed King and suggested that all Terranian's unite in Terran's first defense effort. An 8 day mass of Terranian's working around the clock in a unified force to bend the ground surrounding Terran up into 150ft walls surrounding the entire country became their first priority. After the 8 day build, a grand celebration ensued and is now upheld annually as the Boelldum bloom. After another 92 days passed the Terranian's had fortified not only the country, but their capitol as well, building all of Teravitahl into the castle-like fortress that it is today.

Historical Figures

    Serrahs Volf
Aka, King Serrahs the Kind. She punched Echidna from the sky and scared the Mother of Monsters back into the seas, she toppled the cult tyrant Mother Myirx to liberate the Terranian crown, and she survived not only falling into the Devils Mouth, but climbing back out with a soldier on her back.
    Eliid Killigner
Said to be the Saint of Fate. She fought and survived the War of Gods, adapted from a human Gifted Child into a Edenkiin Terranian through nothing but time and willpower, and then liberated her goddess from the Box of Blasphemy.
    Eike Stahl
Aka, King Eike the Eerie. He was one of the first Edenkiin and is said to have stopped a massive earthquake in the early days of Elematiis. He was later given the title, "The Eerie" due to his complete emotional detachment to people and his involvement in sex trafficking.
    Reble Biin
An Edenkiin Known initially as "Reble Stone-Skin the Unbreakable", nothing on the surface of Eden was able to puncture Rebles stone-skin, he was said to have survived fighting countless monsters, two dragons of the Garden, and a kraken without a scratch before a meteor falling to Eden caught his attention. He had a Fae smith craft a magical catapult that shot him through the sky and into the flaming rock. The meteor was destroyed, but reble never returned. That was henceforth known as the day that Reble stone-skin the Unbreakable, finally broke. The date of his death was recorded as Syre 13th, 5244 TN, and a memorial for him stands on the wall of heroes located in Teravitahl, Terran.
    Daun Killigner
First Edenkiin leader of the 3rd battalion of Stone Blades at the age of 10, he was promoted at 15 to commander of the third generation of Terranian revolutionaries aspiring to liberate the Terranian throne from cult tyrant Mother Myirx. Despite his age, most soldiers held him in high regards due to his valor during the battle to reclaim the Ranges of Raiyna from enemy Aireai forces when most of his battalion was captured as prisoners of war and he was able to escape and take over the enemy base, rescuing almost all of his men in the process. When Daun handed in his final mission statement he had accurately reported that during his mission he had liberated 742 soldiers, with 1 K.I.A in the process of retaking the Ranges.
    Sakoi Carmaala

Only 60 bottles were ever made using her recipe before the time of Sakoi Carmaalas death, a recipe which none have been able to recreate as she took it with her to the grave.
    Keemli Moara
A Edenkiin said to have somehow fallen into the Fayde. He convinced a few brave Fae to summon him back to Eden through a portal in Mordu, communicating with them by writing into the ground at their feet. The story of Keemli resonates with more than only Terranians as his tale ends with a grim conclusion stemming from sacrifice. when the Fae travelers made it to Mordu and opened the portal to pull him back into the Mortal Realm, 34 Fae children covered in blood emerged instead. The children all insisted that he painted them red and said "Don't turn around, just keep going. Don't worry, I'm right behind you." And that he continually promised he was right behind them as they walked through the portal, but though the Fae travelers waited as long as they could, after determining the blood to be Keemlis it soon became apparent that he was not going to be returning to this world. Some say if you enter the Fayde in the dead of night through the mountains of Mordu, you can still hear him whispering to the children in a haunting tone, "I'm right behind you... I'm right behind you."
    Petunia Peyton
Said to be a Saint of Myamya who rode a rainbow to the Son in order to save the seasons after the fall of Myamya.
    Autum Petaalin
A famous Alchemist who cured the effects of the Maddening Miasma.

He supposedly traveled to the underworld and back to gift the Final Flower to his dying wife so he could meet her in Elysium fields.
    Iin Grundlen
He named his child after Irde. Irde was offended and arrived in person to brawl with him, he lost and was turned into a tree.
    Irde/Irdom Grundlen
Was approached by Irde when of decent age and happily changed his name to Irdom. He was granted land blessed by Irde located in the Forest of Silence.
