Treaty of Resolution

The Treaty of Resolution, also known as the Resolution Treaty and sometimes the Never Again Agreement is a treaty which was signed as Starweb space was clawing its way out of the Interstellar Dark Ages caused by the Age of Strife which ended the Second Interstellar Period. It provided a final resolution to the Age of Strife conflicts and planted the seeds of foundation for the Stellar Compact.

Details

Starweb civilization was in a very dire state following the Age of Strife. Planetary bombardments and relativistic strikes had devastated many worlds formerly hosting populations in the billions and a large portion of stargates had failed from neglect or deliberate destruction, separating the Starweb into numerous isolated star systems or clusters. Warfare, violence, and massacres were numerous in this period as civilization fell apart, and most survivors regressed as their societies lost the ability to support advanced technology. Feral replicators, originating with automated military systems left over from the smashes superpowers, became endemic in many areas as well. A few fortunate places, such as the Technocratic Concord, had survived with most of their population and technology base intact, but were isolated on account of the general breakdown in interstellar trade and travel.

Eventually, more places began to rebuild, with new or resurgent nations finally stamping out violence and beginning to reconstruct their technology bases, eventually re-establishing some the wormhole connections which had once formed the Starweb. The Treaty of Resolution was the result of diplomatic conferences during this time as recontact began to get underway, especially between the remains of the Second Interstellar Period superpowers whose wars had snowballed into a civilizational apocalypse. With the sheer horror of what had been endured occupying everyone's minds, the goal of this treaty was simple: to fix what had gone wrong, and prevent such a thing from ever happening again. In it, the signing nations pledged to work towards that end, and after its signing a series of diplomatic and political conferences began. The end result of this was the foundation of the Stellar Compact, empowered to regulate international affairs so nations could avoid feeling the need to resort to war.
