Jennar Family

Families are a major political unit in the Glorious Empire. Large matrilines potentially comprising thousands or even millions of individuals, a Family is headed by one or more rulers (genarchs or sometimes scions) and exerts political influence as a single front.

The Family system gets its origin with the invention of rejuvenation technology by the Jennar in the pre-Imperial period. This allowed families and wealthy individuals to accumulate wealth without dissipating it through inheritance, creating rigid power structures which persist to the present day. Tezzamat brought the Family system into the Empire as the foundation of its power structure, which has had ongoing effects both positive and negative. On one hand, the Families ensure stability as none wish to existentially threaten the Empire, the source of their wealth, and on the other it is an ossified system of gerontocracy which makes upward mobility virtually impossible.
