What is this?

 

Shelder Evolution (a.k.a. ShelderEvo) is a RolePlay card game where the Master ( REYA ) and players play cards with a resource economy behind it to write a ROLEPLAY SCRIPT.

This script is located in the ShelderEvo Discord and is the actions and interactions of the story behind each session of ShelderEvo.

Players can adopt a character represented by a CREATURE Card, build a CREATURE DECK with TRAIT Cards (characteristic of the lifeform) and EXPCards (Skill and personality buffs), play these cards or recover some by interacting with the script, and write the ACTIONS and INTERACTIONS in a post in the PlayRoom channel on ShelderEvo DISCORD.

PLAYER

Players are entities with access to the SHELDEX in the M.A.G.P.I.E. AI System .

MAGPIE provides an interface between players and chipped creatures called SHELDEX to allow for communication.

Players can adopt chipped creatures and use an arsenal of SHELDEX commands to interact, guide, and manage the lives of their adopted creatures.

Higher levels of interactions are unlocked by increasing affinity between Player and Creature, starting from a very basic TRACKING level of interaction, where the Player can follow the adopted Creature through its senses, see what it sees, etc, and up to increasing levels of synchronization and coordination.

It is therefore possible for a Player deeply bonded to an adopted Creature to become "one" with it, like an experienced hunter and their trusty hound.


CREATURE

Creatures are all the lifeforms on Shelder.

However, only tagged creatures can be fully tracked and only HOC creatures can interact with MAGPIE.

Tagging creatures

Humans can tag creatures with GPS and/or bio-trackers to ping suitable receivers with such data as location and biometrics.

Tagging can be useful for human creatures in game, but it is separate from chipping.

Chipped creatures are animals with brain-mapping implants. (See HOC 1.0 and HOC 2.0)

Chipped creatures can synthetize the creature's mind and provide SYNC, and can essentially become similar to a DRONE S.A.I.C.U.. The chip maps the brain and, by using a specific program for each species, it allows the creature to interact with SHELDEX, and for a player to "adopt" the creature.

Adoption is the relationship a player establishes with a creature in order to raise it successfully.

Chipped creatures can take advantage of the digitalized mind-map and connection to have an edge in life. Chips can connect short-range to other chips, and SYNC to MAGPIE via HF/LF radio.

Game Roadmap

what's in store for the future?

I don't know about you... But I see a 3D MMORPG with a badass central server capable of hosting tens of thousands of clients at once, a fully integrated and proprietary account system and in-game interface that recreates the SHELDEX, and doubling as mobile app, just like what the human colonists have in the game lore.

I can see a plausible three-stage evolution for this game, then:

Alpha stage

Where we are right now. Discord-run multiplayer persistant RPG card game curated by staff, and paired to an expanding lore saga.

Beta stage

Next step is a MOBILE APP. All the functionalities and mechanics that we have to manually play out with commands and card play will be managed by the app. Possibly supported by simple comic-style animations of creature avatar. Think old-school Pokemon for GameBoy Advance basically. Here we might see the emergence of a centralized server that hosts all clients at once.

Omega stage

The last step is a fully fledged 3D MMORPG, a step so far-fetched and hard that is only unlockable by undeniable international success with the previous stage, the app. It is of course the most glorious of all and the one that most closely represents the original vision. We'll talk more about this once Shelder Evo crosses over... say... 1 million subs ahahah.

The future is bright either way

This game was created to fulfil a need to give more detail, calculated randomness, and character to the oh so many aspects of Shelder, the world that provides a setting for a saga of stories. In this role it has already proven as an incredibly useful asset, one I am glad to be working with and that never fails to provide more writing prompts than you can manage.

Even failing to become a successful multiplayer game, S.E. will always have a place in the saga.

Notice also the meta-game aspect... S.E. is a game the characters play. It's a major plot point.
