Vampire Ranks

We have heard the Requiem for one vampire, but what happens when the song is joined? How do they intertwine? A chorus forms, opening up new possibilities as monsters engage each other. Here lurks the menagerie, an unkindness of Beasts. Each one of the Damned has a different song, but when those songs play over each other, the dance begins.

Fledgeling

A Fledgling is a newly embraced Vampire within the last 20 years, still under the protection of their Sire. After the immediate Embracing of a mortal, the victim is considered a Fledgling. The newly turned vampire must be able to stabilize The Beast. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the Sire to ensure that the Progeny is even worthy of the Embrace. When the vampire has at least passed through the initial stages of vampiric existence and no longer needs the protection of the Sire, the Fledgling will be taken before the Prince for the Presentation.

Neonates

neonate (NEE • oh • nate): A young vampire, engaged in his Requiem for less than 50 years. Neonates are generally lightly involved in the true machinations of undead society. They aren't powerful enough to really matter, and are consequently used primarily as pawns by the Ancillae and Elders. Derogatorily, a neonate is often called a whelp.

Ancillae

Ancilla (an • SILL • uh): Ranking below the elders but above neonates, the are vampires who have proven themselves as valuable members of Kindred society, between 50 and 300 years. Ancillae often serve as aides and agents for elders or the court. Ancillae usually play their own power games as well, though these are of lesser consequence than the manipulations of the elders. The plural is ancillae (an • SILL • ae).

Family Ancillae

While rare it is not unheard of for an Ancillae progeny of a Clan Elder to be granted the rights of family and coined a Family Ancillae. The term and rank "Family" is rarely used in discussion as it describes a privlage.

Elder

The term Elder is used to denote the status of a vampire who has experienced at least 300 years of unlife or as a term of respect. Sometimes, we beasts last a long time. Forever maybe, or so it seems to those of us who reach these impossible ages. Most vampires call a vampire three hundred years or more an elder, though as with any claim of age, manifestation of great power is more important than documentation and years gone by.

Family Elder

A rank granted to the Elder progeny of a Clan Elder, with plans of establishing a family line. The Elder now has full rights to Embrace and approve as he deems necessary to fill in the ranks. Family Elder is not a title spoken in most conversations as it refers to a privilege, while its bearer is referred to simply as Elder.

Clan Elder

The Clan Elder is responsible for carrying out the machinations of the Clan Antediluvians while managing all aspects of their clans including their each Family Elder. They are also expected to act as ambassadors to the others clans resolving disputes or organizing inter-clan cooperation.

Antediluvian

An Antediluvian is a Kindred Vampire of incalculable power, from before the Cleansing Wars and who are the founders of the Kindred vampire clans. "Antediluvian" literally means "before the fall". These monsters are a thousand years or more, and are barely human in their way of thinking. They are clever, ancient, and willing to do whatever it takes to get what they want. At that age, few things can stop them from their desires.

Vecna, the Blood Tyrant and progenitor of the Kindred Vampires. This is a new chapter, of a dark gods return to power, leading his legions of Kindred Vampires while sacrificing a mere world to achieve it.
