Personal History

Minerva Novarix's journey to the Court of the Divine began in the mortal realm, where she dedicated her life to the service of Pelor, the sun god. As a devout paladin, she wielded her faith like a beacon of hope, dispelling darkness wherever it lurked. Under the banner of Pelor, she served as a stalwart defender of justice, enforcing the will of her god with unwavering determination.   Her reputation as a righteous crusader spread far and wide, earning her the favor of her sovereign, who entrusted her with the task of meting out justice in his name. With each swing of her blade, she sought to purify the world of sin and corruption, viewing herself as a divine instrument of Pelor's will.   Upon her ascension to the ranks of the divine, Minerva carried with her the same sense of duty and conviction that had guided her in life. Now, as the Angel of Purification and Redemption, she sits in the Court of the Divine on behalf of Pelor, a relentless advocate for the strength and supremacy of the gods.

Physical descriptions

Appearance & Attire

Minerva Novarix cuts a striking figure in the Court of the Divine, clad in gleaming white armor adorned with radiant symbols of Pelor. Her armor, a reflection of her unwavering devotion to her god, serves as both protection and proclamation of her divine authority. Her glowing strands of hair resemble captured sunlight, cascading around her like a halo of brilliance.   Despite her radiant appearance, Minerva's dark complexion and piercing green eyes lend her a haunting visage of beauty, hinting at the intensity of her inner fire. She carries herself with an air of regal confidence, every movement purposeful and deliberate, commanding the attention of all who dare to gaze upon her.

Minerva Novarix speaks with a voice that resonates with righteous fervour, each word carrying the weight of divine judgment. Her tone is stern and commanding, befitting her role as the Angel of Purification and Redemption. Yet, beneath the stern facade lies a hint of compassion, for Minerva believes that even the most wayward souls are deserving of Pelor's grace, should they choose to seek it.

Motivations

Minerva Novarix's motivations are driven by her unwavering faith in Pelor and her staunch belief in the superiority of the divine over mortals. Her relentless pursuit of purification and redemption can border on fanaticism, leading her to view mortals as little more than pawns in the grand scheme of divine providence. Her tyrannical approach toward mortals has earned her a reputation as a ruthless adversary in the Court of the Divine, with many choosing to steer clear of her formidable presence.

General Summary

Session 22 Report

The party returned to Umcebo, where Leopold expressed concerns over recent tensions surrounding airships. He suggested avoiding air travel near the city and recommended using boats when traveling over water. During this exchange, it became clear that neither Keyes nor Mina knows how to swim, much to the amusement of the group.

Events in Umcebo

Meeting with Skrethin Paolis
Najzad sought out Skrethin, a wiry bugbear scholar and collector, to exchange some gold for artifacts. While Najzad seemed satisfied, the rest of the party were skeptical, suspecting Skrethin might be ripping him off. They also noted his aversion to the sun, which piqued their curiosity.

Potion Shopping
The group visited Bloombottle's Apothecary, where Mina purchased potions of underwater breathing in preparation for the next leg of their journey.

Odrios and Tridar's Proposal
The party stopped by Odrios, Tridar's struggling shop, where he explained his mission. He offered the group a 25-gold upfront payment with a potential profit share of 10% from the lost treasure, estimated at roughly 2,500 gold pieces. Tridar shared that his source, Jerome, spotted a shipwreck resembling Tridar's family vessel about three miles off the coast of Tonta’telivu, an island in the Isles of Krast. He also mentioned Ara’ka, an elder of the Anquara tribe, who are known to be wary of outsiders and spiders.

The Tattered Anchor

The party returned to their favorite drinking spot, The Tattered Anchor, for some revelry. Najzad struck up a conversation with Mirela "Stormwhisper" Vayne, a half-elven sailor with a reputation for tall tales. Things escalated, leading to a rather awkward and unsatisfying evening between the two. Despite this, Mirela agreed to help the party by providing a ride to the Isles of Krast, partly to move past the awkwardness of the prior night.

Saucy Texting and Unexpected Connections

The party began "saucy texting" Jerome to confirm the shipwreck details. While scrolling through Jerome's display photos, Corrin realized that he plays golf with her grandfather, adding a humorous twist to the interaction.

Forks in the Road

Lutzen’s Updates

  • Odrios Buyout Opportunity: Lutzen informed the party that Odrios is drowning in debt and likely to be foreclosed. He suggested that buying out the shop could be a profitable venture, especially with Tridar’s debt situation.
  • Simic Catalyst Serum: Lutzen revealed his progress with the Simic Catalyst Serum, noting that its healing properties cause rapid aging and increased dependency with repeated use. This revelation pointed to Freilick’s likely motive for heading to the Blightfel in search of ways to prolong his life.

These updates created a dilemma for the party:

  • Should they help Tridar save his shop or pursue a buyout themselves?
  • What dangers might lie ahead as they delve deeper into Freilick’s mysterious motives?

Setting Sail

The party is now preparing to sail to Tonta’telivu in the Isles of Krast, with Mirela agreeing to captain their voyage. Their mission is to locate the shipwreck, uncover the treasure, and navigate the challenges posed by the Anquara tribe and the mysterious spiders that guard their territory. With multiple threads pulling their attention, the group faces critical decisions in the coming journey.

History

The Simic Catalyst Serum has its origins in the innovative laboratories of the Simic Combine, a guild of mages and scientists dedicated to the pursuit of biological experimentation and augmentation. Fueled by their relentless curiosity, the Simic mages sought to push the boundaries of genetic manipulation and create powerful hybrids by merging the traits of different organisms.

What it can do

The Simic Catalyst Serum is a remarkable stimulant that serves as a catalyst for genetic fusion. Its primary function is to break down the user's DNA, preparing it for the infusion of genetic material from other beings. By incorporating a specialized dark binding agent, this serum significantly enhances the chances of a successful Simic hybridization, promoting the integration of multiple genetic structures.   When administered, the serum triggers a rapid breakdown of the user's DNA, followed by a carefully controlled infusion of genetic material from other organisms. This process, known as arcane fusion, combines the desired traits, attributes, and abilities of the chosen species, resulting in a potent Simic hybrid with enhanced capabilities.

What it looks like

The Simic Catalyst Serum is typically contained within a small vial crafted from a combination of glass and bioengineered materials. The vial exhibits a unique iridescent quality, reflecting a spectrum of vibrant colors that shimmer and shift, reminiscent of the diverse lifeforms found in the natural world.   The serum itself appears as a luminescent liquid, with a subtle bioluminescent glow that emanates a soft, soothing light. Its appearance is often a translucent aquamarine or emerald hue, evoking a sense of vitality and the essence of life itself. When the serum is agitated, small swirling patterns and intricate bubbles can be observed, hinting at the complex fusion of genetic material taking place within.

Cautionary Notes

It is crucial to recognize that the utilization of the Simic Catalyst Serum and the practice of genetic fusion are not without their ethical and moral implications. The Simic Combine's experiments have often been met with scrutiny and criticism from those who advocate for the natural order and the sanctity of biological diversity.   Moreover, the process of gene fusion and the creation of Simic hybrids can result in unforeseen consequences. These consequences may manifest as physical and psychological instabilities or an identity crisis for the individual undergoing the transformation.   As with any powerful substance, the acquisition and possession of the Simic Catalyst Serum may draw the attention of regulatory bodies and organizations concerned with the ethics of genetic manipulation.   In conclusion, the Simic Catalyst Serum stands as a testament to the Simic Combine's relentless pursuit of biological perfection. With its ability to break down and fuse genetic structures, it offers individuals the opportunity to transcend their inherent limitations and unlock the extraordinary potential of Simic hybridization. However, those who choose to tread this path must approach it with caution, mindful of the ethical and moral implications that accompany such extraordinary power.

Personal History

Skrethin Paolis grew up on the outskirts of Umcebo, in a dimly lit, sprawling library maintained by a distant relative who was a devout scholar of Deneir. This upbringing fostered his love for rare antiquities and knowledge, setting him on the path to becoming a renowned acquirer of ancient treasures.   While most bugbears of his lineage found purpose in strength and intimidation, Skrethin veered into the intellectual realm, captivated by history’s mysteries and the potential of ancient artifacts. He dedicated himself to the teachings of Deneir, seeking to preserve the truths of the past and uncover the forgotten secrets of civilizations lost to time.   Despite his reclusive nature, Skrethin's name is whispered in academic and adventuring circles as the one to approach for rare, genuine artifacts. He established profitable yet tenuous relationships with the dwarves of Grundrimm, whose mining efforts frequently unearth relics that appeal to his meticulous tastes. However, his dealings with them are often strained by mutual distrust.

Physical Descriptions

Appearance & Attire

Skrethin is a wiry bugbear with a gaunt, almost skeletal frame. His thin layer of coarse black fur clings close to his body, appearing patchy in the harsh light he avoids. His striking green eyes glint with both intelligence and suspicion, always scanning his surroundings.   A snubbed nose and slick black hair, tied back into a neat bun, give him an air of academic precision. He wears long, flowing robes of muted black and deep green, embroidered subtly with symbols of Deneir. Beneath the robes, he keeps an assortment of satchels and compartments for tools, scrolls, and small relics. His hands, though thin and clawed, are surprisingly delicate, hinting at his scholarly pursuits rather than physical labor.

Concealed Items

  • A small, enchanted lockbox containing his most treasured find: a glowing shard of an ancient Aragite mural.
  • A masterfully concealed dagger engraved with Deneir’s symbol, for emergencies.

    What do they sound like

    History & Introduction

Welcome to the Port of Umcebo, a bustling desert city that serves as a key trading hub for all manner of exotic goods and precious treasures. Nestled against the shimmering sands of the surrounding desert, this city is a sight to behold, with ornate buildings and winding streets that seem to glow in the sun.   The city's port is its lifeblood, with ships from all over the world docking here to unload their cargo and take on new supplies. The harbor is always busy, with merchants haggling over the prices of goods and sailors loading and unloading cargo.   One of the most striking features of the city is the Golden Oasis, a sprawling market that stretches for miles through the city streets. Here, vendors from across the world sell their wares, from silks and spices to rare herbs and magical artifacts. Adventurers looking for rare and powerful items will find no shortage of options here.   Despite its beauty and bustling activity, Port of Umcebo is not without its dangers. Bandits and thieves lurk in the alleys and side streets, waiting for unsuspecting travelers to pass by. The city's ruler, a powerful Sultanate who sits on the trade council, maintains a strict justice system to keep the peace, but adventurers looking to make a name for themselves may find themselves drawn into conflicts with local criminals or the city guard.   For those seeking adventure, the surrounding desert offers endless opportunities for exploration and discovery. Ancient ruins and forgotten tombs dot the landscape, waiting to be explored by brave adventurers. However, the desert is also home to dangerous creatures and treacherous sandstorms, and travelers are wise to take precautions before venturing too far from the city.   Whether you're a trader looking to strike a lucrative deal or an adventurer seeking fame and fortune, the Port of Umcebo has something to offer everyone. But be warned - in this city of exotic wonders and hidden dangers, nothing is ever quite as it seems.

    Society & Boroughs

    Golden Oasis

A sprawling market spirals it's way through the city connecting the docks with the two residential courts, this Oasis is home to most of the traders of the city and it's named for the fine gold trim that lines the sails and stalls of the merchants, creating a glistening golden glow throughout the day and a dazzling display in the evening. This area is a melting pot of commoners, traders, and nobles - nobles know well enough to keep guard as while the city watch has a strong presence the Golden Oasis still sees its fair amount of criminal activity from common thieves to serious organized crime.

    Dock and Barrellers Run

Approaching the docks, one's senses were immediately awoken by a cacophony of sounds. The air resonated with the symphony of seagulls' cries, the rhythmic creaking of ships' masts, and the lively chatter of merchants and sailors mingling on the bustling docks. The pungent scent of salt and seaweed danced in the air, intermingling with the tantalizing aromas of exotic spices and freshly caught seafood.
The Barrellers Run is home to a smattering of rough taverns, warehouses, and the guards keep all of which are constructed in sun-baked clay and adorned with intricate mosaics each symbolizing the use of the buildings.

    Roccaro Court of Commons

The Roccaro Court is a sprawling space that extends to the East of the markets, homes here are of modest and hardwearing clay, sand, and timber. Which house similarly hardwearing common folk, a tavern or two, a guard house, and two court common areas complete this simple residential district.

    Court of Callife

The Callife is a district that exudes wealth, with finely carved cobblestone streets and uniform three-story domed terrace homes each with beautifully manicured grounds each sporting exotic flowers, lush greenery, and fountains that hold a stark contrast to the rest of the city. The streets are lined with twisting iron oil street lanterns and the district is home to three guards per ten residents and is hailed as the safest part of the city.

    Political

    Political perspective

The Sultan of Umcebo is Sorvra Vol, a striking woman, and tactical merchant who keens an eagle eye over everything that comes in and goes out of her city. She keeps an iron grip on most of the city through her Neburo the city's guards watch. She has a strong belief in a fair and equal opportunity for all, and taxes both rich and poor equally. This does create friction for those of poorer means, but it provides an avenue for those who are willing to work hard to get ahead. Within her council are a small section of advisors each responsible for the four districts of the city.

    Concealed Political views

Court of Callife Advisor - is a corrupt gentleman - who allows the use of the sewers and tunnels under his sector of the city to be used to smugglers and thugs, to move contraband goods through the city - he is in on the take. Roccaro Court Advisor - is constantly pleaing with the city for a fairer taxation system for the hardest hit, this continuous whining without innovative solution means his points are rarely heard - no matter how valid they are. Docks and Barrellers Run Advisor - Cares little for the politics as most port merchants pay their taxes and his docks maintenance is prioritised otherwise trade won't exist, so he typically keeps out of it unless required. He is aware of the Callife Advisors current dealings and makes sure they remain aware of their knowledge. Golden Oasis Advisor - Skirts a fine line between reform and opportunity, as local traders profit from illegal goods and tourism is good at the moment, the local gangs no to keep blood spilling to a minimum and no one will raise eyebrows and this keeps the delicate balance for now.

    Economics

The city thrives on trade and it's ability to funnel goods to the greater sands through its port. It's finely balanced tax system keeps the city profitable while allowing imports of their required goods, being mainly lumber and food in exchange for the treasures found within the desert.

    Religious Beliefs

The city openly embraces religion and offers opportunities for prayer among the sanctioned religions of Ararim. They are aware of cultist activity and do their best to stamp it out where possible.

    Military

The Neburo are distinctly dressed in dark leather and plate armor with a golden capelet, their weaponry varies depending on their expertise, but they uphold the law of the city on behalf of the Sultan.

Session 21: Sending Private Ryan Report

    General Summary

The session started with the party making their way to Mahali, where they met with Marigold and saw that the town that they have been fostering is growing. Finigan Finch had taken Astrelian there for much needed medical attention and the rest of the gang were busily adding the finishing touches to the newly refurbished house for the Krull family.   It was odd for the party to see Finigan being useful for a change rather than sticking his fingers where they weren't required. Mina was very keen to catch up with Astrelian who after his run in with the Blackhand and his knowledge of the parties interests with this organisation was less than interested in continuing the conversation. Something that ignited Mina's interests even further.   After a nights rest and a good mornings breakfast supplied by Victor the party set back off in their air-ship on their way to Umcebo to help Tridar find his families treasure.   On the way they noticed a caravan was about to be set upon by a group of two sandsharks, here our heroes intervened and were able to ward off the attackers, sadly at the loss of the caravaneers horse Ryan - luckily Sandra lived on to fight another day. They discovered that it was a duo of Yuanti relic hunters and Archeologists also on their way back to Umcebo after a dig to sell off some of their finds.   One a rather striking tall Yuanti named Najzad and the other was his cousin Theskuh who was quite outspoken and not trained to deal with large social situations.   It became apparent to the party after a short period of time that one of these two was in deed DuginDeeper on Hellpit the forum that Corrin had been using to try and find others who were also interested in Archeology. The ladies found this a great opportunity to play a trick on their new Yuanti friends disguising themselves as Najzad and Theskuh and their other cousin Akshei.   After some antics the party confessed to knowing who they were and why they were headed to Umcebo and during this time started negotiating on the loot that the Yuanti had found.   Loot found and rough values
    Sunstrider's Lens – 55 gp - Sold to Mina
    Oasis Chalice – 40 gp
Scarlet Sand Pendant – 35 gp
Khorun Sandstone Tablet – 50 gp
    Desert's Heart Talisman – 40 gp
Whispering Fan of Zephir – 45 gp
Ivory Seal of Ralak’s Court – 35 gp
With Mina finally striking a deal on the purchase of the Sunstrider's Lens.   The party explain the mission for Tridar and the potential haul of treasure associated and this certainly takes the interest of Najzad however his cousin who is aquaphobic suggested he would prefer to stay on land and now at the realisation of loss of their horse Ryan the Yuanti performed their sacred right of "pouring one out for the real ones" and celebrating the life of Ryan.   On landing near Umcebo Najzad and Theskuh parted ways only for the echos of Zeril Reis' to be over heard "WHAT DO YOU MEAN RYAN IS DEAD". As the party quickly realised these horses may have been borrowed and Ryan was likely Zeril's favourite horse.
