Toothed Whale

Historical Overview

The Toothed Whale is presumed to live in the deep sea of the Unknown Tides, particularly in the frozen north. It is there that the Toothed Whale enters Prominere and Anharan mythology, as it is said to have been encountered by Dennic I Prominere. It was the second creature sent against him by Murk, after the Clawed Whale, and was second as well in the hierarchy of Murk's servants.
Dennic's battle with the Toothed Whale of legend saw him duel its teeth, depicted more poetically than accurately as being able to move like swords, but eventually triumphing over the creature and proceeding north on his journeys. From the teeth of the creature he created two dozen long knives, Dennician Dirks, which became rare and highly prized artifacts.
The Toothed Whale has never been seen near the Anharan coast, but has been encountered by sailors in the far north, east of the Sea of Crystal. None are known to have been killed, though they can be spotted surfacing near icebergs. Sailors believe this is done to sharpen their teeth by honing them against the ice.

Biology

Little is known about the biology of the Toothed Whale, as none have ever been killed by sailors nor found washed up on beaches. All that is known has been gathered by spotting them at a distance, such as their estimated size and weight of 150 feet and 300,000 pounds, respectively.
However, the numbers for the Toothed Whale fit cleanly between those of the Clawed Whale and Murk's Maid, indicating perhaps the creatures' mythical hierarchy has influenced estimations.
