Wordler 388
Wordler 388, the Wordler of NIGHT, was designated by the QUEEN of the REALM on Day 388. Her given name has not been revealed, and as with most of the QUEEN‘s designees, she is referred to by her Wordler title or number.
As the first in-story failed Wordler, 388 is also the first to be represented in her portrait by a skull. She appears prominently in the wordlerQUEST and NIGHTfall storylines.

Day 388 Quest
In her initial appearance, 388 is shown at the end of her quest, just before sundown on Day 388. Defeated and surrounded by the murderous crows of the Rhyme Zone. She remains hopeful that she will find her Protective Word, right up until the end. A flashback from the perspective of Wordler 393 shows the ceremony in which 388 receives her designation from the QUEEN, the final such assignment that the monarch would make before her death. Wordler 388 failed to secure her Protective Word, which led directly to the NIGHTfall Incident, overnight from Day 388 into Day 389.
After her failure, 388’s skeleton was picked clean of flesh by the Rhyme Zone crows, covered in green flames and the tattered remains of her clothing, and animated by a curse that transformed the former champion of the people into their worst nightmare.
As the Wordler of NIGHT, she rode into her home village on the back of an Apocalypse Beast, lit every structure on fire, toppled walls, and commanded an army of wild animals. Many were killed, including the QUEEN, and many more were driven from their homes.
388 thereafter served as an agent of the Curse, succeeding the QUEEN as the new designator of Wordler status.

In 388’s quest vignette, we see an optimism that fails to pay off. Subsequent installments show a horrific, murderous, worst side of the character as an agent of the curse, but with increasing hints of underlying humor and compassion. Despite the harm she’s compelled to cause, her sympathies ultimately lie with her former compatriots. She assigns new Wordlers to quest for new Words of Protection, as she is required to do, and perhaps hopes to have them join by her side if they fail, but she also provides hints and clues that increase the chances of success. In the last vignette of the wordlerQUEST storyline, on Day 392, we see 388 choose a human roommate. Perhaps she does this as a utilitarian matter, because she needs a base of operations. Perhaps she’s looking for a person she can torture on an indefinite basis. Or perhaps her actions indicate that she still clings to the hope that she can somehow return to a more human form and be reintegrated into the society of the REALM. If so, this return to her previous optimistic form is ultimately misguided.Licensure Status
