What are Laruia...

That question is more difficult to answer than it should be. In it's most basic sense, the word Laruia is used to describe any and all entities from the newly discovered Laruian Dimension. But it is fitting the term we chose for them was derived from "Specter or Ghost" because that's what they most remind us of. They are often formless in their raw state, malleable, and generally unintelligible. But Laruia aren't harmless, more often than not they are dangerous once they leak into our own dimension. Even more important than that; their discovery has empowered some humans beyond what was ever considered a possibility before. The Laruian Dimension was first breached by multiverse physicists in Opulence only twelve years ago now, but since then we have already discovered a lot about Laruia and have worked on classifying many different variations of their forms. I'll cover the quick basics of what we know right now.

Wild Laruia

The term "Wild Laruia" is both specific and non-descript. A Laruia is considered wild if it has leaked into our own dimension through an operating Laruian Portal, and is not in it's egg form nor tethered to a Four Gen human (will be described below). Wild Laruia are often formless and mostly invisible to humans who are not Four Gen when they first pass into our dimension but once they settle themselves somewhere, usually in a quiet part of a city or the wilderness, they change. We don't know why they change form, or how, or how many variations are possible but something about the environment in which they settle has something to do with it, maybe its just the energy there or some kind of connection that location has with their own dimension on the other side. Regardless, these Laruia often times develop a more stable, physical presence. Usually, but not always, they are subjects of terror with horrid appearances and dark, animalistic motives. They don't seem to harbor capability of higher thinking or sentience. There are a few dozen different types of Wild Laruia documented now, though I'll save those details for another time.

Phasmaia

As briefly mentioned above, it is possible for Four Gen humans to gather Laruian “eggs” from the Laruian Dimension and bring them back through a portal and into our world. A Phasmaia, however, is a term used to describe the type of Laruia within their dimension who lay said eggs... these are the reproductive entities of the realm, and as far as we know, the only ones. When Four Gens enter the dimension through a new portal site, they are tasked with finding phasmaia and tracking down their nesting sites. This is no easy task either, because these entities are massive and incredibly dangerous. Four Gens have reportedly lost their lives from these creatures while trying to gather an egg before, and it remains a continual threat.

Coelarua

A coelarua is a term used to describe a Laruian “egg”, since they aren’t truly eggs in the sense us from the Earth dimension would understand them. These are more like large bundles of energy than an object with true substance like shell and yolk, and they have to be sucked into a specially designed vial canister in order to be held or carried back to our world. Why go through all that trouble? Well.. the few humans who are able to pass into this dimension (known as Four Gens) and are able to transport this coelarua back to our plane will find that the Laruia who develops from this swirling bundle of potential energy will be fiercely bound to them and their own energy/spirit. Once a transported coelarua “hatches” into a neonate Laruia, it becomes what we call ‘tethered’ to that person... granting them otherworldly abilities in the process.

Tethered

As mentioned above, very few humans have the capability to enter the Laruian Dimension. It was discovered through energy wavelength data given off by the first portal built to the other dimension that only people who were born during very brief periods of time had a matching energy profile capable of entering the realm. Through early testing, this theory proved to be accurate. As far we know so far, only people born under the dates listed below are capable of entering the realm, and thus capable of becoming tethered. The three generations capable of passing into the Laruian Dimension are as follows:   Generation Auctor: Born year 2815, October 21st-23rd.   Generation Magni: Born year 2837, August 22nd-24th.   Generation Scion: Born year 2870, February 17th-19th.     Projected Fourth Generation:   Generation Neon: To be born year 2892, April 18th-20th

Therumbra

A therumbra is certain class of laruia, and specifically is a term we used to describe a laruia who has been tethered to a human. Naturally, these laruia have been subjects of the most study so we know the most about them. I'll be describing these in more detail in a separate entry.
