Wooden Shields

Named after their light equipment, the Wooden Shields are a light cavalry division specialised in creature subjugation. They play a large role in the valley safety, rushing wherever the civilians need them against attacks. Additionally, they escort merchant caravans in the Mountain Pass that connects the valley to the old country.
The Wooden Shields are clear about their political preferences, but treat all parties the same within the valley. They stand by the absent king and against warmongers. However their focus is to keep the people safe.
Amongst their members the Wooden Shields count many children of nobles that are outside their family succession. They in general do not serve to earn fame, instead truly believing in the pledge to protect the people. All enthousiastically participate in drills to train against various creatures, while also publishing instructions for other parties.
