Mercenary Fixer

Mercenary fixers were, and in some places still are, people that would act as intermediary between Scouts and their commissioners. Originally fixers helped people find reliable mercenaries for bodyguard duty and aiding in armed conflicts. Over time, they spread out into brokering deals for scouts.   For scouts, fixers were a great help. A single scout would have a hard time dealing with being cheated, especially when their commissioner was a powerful noble or merchant. Worst case, they would be framed for attempted murder and cut down on the spot. At the same time, fraudulous scouts also existed, so commissioners also needed help with finding reliable hands to hire.

Who they were
A fixer would be someone who already had made a name for themself, often already having built up a connection with mercenaries or scouts, who would then start brokering deals for others as well. Sometimes they were a mercenary leader with a good reputation, who would represent other mercenaries and form a unified front.   Their good reputation would echo to the people they arranged, and at the same time their own name was on the line if a group was misled or double-crossed. Great was the impact on a noble that pissed off their fixer and would no longer find even a single bodyguard for hire. Sometimes, their hired hands would even turn on them in retaliation.
Their decline
The biggest downfall of fixers was their profitability. Gaining money simply by staking one's name, how good a gig is that? So the profession drew folks just there for a quick buck. Misrepresenting their influence and sacrificing new scouts to their greed, accepting bribes to turn a blind eye to lethal betrayal, but also those conspiring against rich commissioners.   Due to the damage this did, some more professional fixers joined forces and founded the Crow's Nest. They not only held the corrupt in check with even greater numbers, but also helped veterans train newbies. Their popularity grew and fixers became a thing of the past.
