Purgatorians | Thicket of Thorns

Purgatorians

The demons were right to rebel during The Original Fall when they saw the preferential treatment humans got. That is how god could assign them the task of weeding out the humans who didn't live up to the greatness they were supposed to. It's not that humanity is better than the celestials — they have potential, and any deviation from that must be punished.   The purgatorians are the Infernals (and a few others) who believe that they aren't actually in opposition to god. They are as much working towards according to the divine plan as The Host is. The difference is that their job is to test all souls as harshly as possible so as that no one unworthy can get close to the divine. It's a shame that The Host themselves don't seem to understand this for the most part.

Symbolism and Espressions

Purgatorians need to show how they themselves are strong and worthy. As a result, they often put themselves through excessive treatments. They have tattoos across most of their bodies at the very least, and most of them have at least some extreme body modification. They are the monsters that put the fear of god into mortals, and they will do what they can to live up to that role.

Worthy Souls

Weeding out the unworthy is the primary goal for any purgatorian. Ideally, this means reducing the number of souls that reach Heaven to none. All mortals have weaknesses and failings, which the Infernal will take advantage of. Bringing that inadequacy to light in a way that can show more mortals how pathetic their attempts and good are is the best result. Failing that, making a mortal destroy themselves through their shortcomings is a possibility.
