Zurekhar

Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
Zurekhar is a region located in the riverlands of The Bafigron Empire.   Once a city-state ruled by the deluded and egotistical Carlo Romaus, Zurekhar now thrives as a city-region within the mighty Bafigron Empire. After its conquest and subsequent integration into the empire, the city has undergone a transformation. Its past as a bastion of hedonistic art, unrestrained ambition, and chaos is still felt in the air, but under the watchful eye of the Sovereign Imperator, Zurekhar has become an imperial asset—though it remains a place of both order and dissonance.

Government

The governance of Zurekhar is divided among a Triumvirate, which consists of:
Fiduciarex of Zurekhar
The region's economic overseer, charged with managing the city's finances, trade, and ensuring that the imperial economy thrives. The Fiduciarex also ensures that Zurekhar's art remains within the bounds of Bafigron's ideals.
Pontifex of Zurekhar
The religious leader of Zurekhar, ensuring that the faith of Helios and the Neomen Pantheon is both promoted and upheld in the region.
Praefectex of Zurekhar
The military commander of the city, responsible for enforcing Bafigron’s law and defending the city from external threats. The Praefectex oversees the Bafigronian Legion stationed in Zurekhar, as well as the local Zurekhari militias that assist in maintaining order.

Industry & Trade

Zurekhar's economy is built on trade, craftsmanship, and the arts—though now the imperial presence has influenced both the production and the trade routes. The city is strategically located in the Riverlands, allowing for extensive trade connections with Bafigron's core regions.

Districts

The Shining Docks
The bustling harbor district of Zurekhar, filled with imperial merchants, river traders, and a thriving market in luxury goods. Artisans from across the empire bring their wares to be sold here, particularly in sculpture, paintings, and fine crafts. Traders now focus on imperial goods, religious artifacts, and artistic products.
The Hollow Ward
This district is home to the ancient temples, manor houses, and imperial administration buildings. Once a chaotic district with rebel factions, it now houses Bafigron’s military garrisons and the Pontifex of Zurekhar’s temples.
The Glimmering Quarter
Formerly known for Carlo's decadent art projects, this district now hosts imperial academies, Red Crescent Theaters, and the Empire’s Artifice Guild. Although it retains the creative spirit of the past, art in this area is now highly controlled, celebrating divine themes and imperial might rather than indulgence.

History

Zurekhar, once called Pitax, was the seat of the tyrannical ruler Carlo Ramus, a man who believed himself to be a god and sought to immortalize his ego through lavish art and monuments. His reign was marked by excess—forced labor producing self-indulgent works of art that were meant to glorify him, not inspire true creativity. However, his reckless expansionist policies ultimately alienated allies, leading to his fall.   Following the collapse of Carlo's regime, Zurekhar was absorbed into the Bafigron Empire as a city-region. While still holding onto some of its chaotic past, the city is now governed by the Triumvirate system. The new rulers, although not without a sense of Zurekhar's old rebellious nature, must now answer to the Sovereign Imperator.

Points of interest

Along with Zurekhar, several smaller settlements in the surrounding region also exist under the influence of the empire:
Kedros
A hamlet situated along the Riverlands, traditionally loyal to the Zurekhari way of life but now increasingly aligning with Bafigron's rule. The Praefectex has stationed an imperial garrison here to maintain order.
Vintar
Known for its lush vineyards and apple orchards, Vintar now supplies the imperial court with fruit and fine wines, continuing its legacy while contributing to Bafigron’s agricultural economy.
Griskar
A small village known for artisan stonework, Griskar has become the site of Bafigronian military fortifications and an academy for the training of imperial architects and engineers.
