The Path of the Ancestral Shaman

Most dedicated worship a specific god, or follow a certain religion. Ancestral Shamans do not. They follow no one, but they honor their ancestors, and heed their advice. All shamans take a covenant to honor their ancestors, and follow it carefully.   They make proper sacrifice on death anniversaries. They say the rites. And the spirits reward them.   Ancestral shamans may draw upon the abilities of their ancestors, manifesting skills as needed. If cornered a shaman can even call upon their Ancestral Wrath, which will dissolve the spirit, but usually lets the shaman murder all the things.

Mastery

Ancestral shamans gain Religion and Negotiation as masteries.

Covenant

The Ancestral Shaman gains a covenant with their ancestors. They must honor them and speak the rites, and annual occurrence. They must also commune with their ancestors at least once each lunar cycle. If they fail in this duty their ancestors exile them from the family lineage, and refuse to lend aid until they atone.   A successful religion check DT 2 is required for each ceremony, or the ancestors are not pleased.

Commune with Ancestors

The shaman conducts a tea ceremony to honor a specific ancestor, one gifted in ways they wish to borrow. They may choose +1 to all defenses, or mastery and edge on a skill of choice until the following sunrise.   Commune with Ancestors requires an active Covenant with your ancestors.

Soul Vessel

When a creature dies within view of the shaman they may attract the spirit, appearing as a spiritual beacon. That soul, if it is not ready to pass on, may choose to reside within them as a temporary vessel for a number of days equal to the shaman's willpower. As a price for this service the spirit must answer one question. They can be as vague and evasive as they like, but they cannot outright lie.

Ancestral Wrath

The shaman consumes a soul within them, devouring its essence and forcing it into the spirit realm. Honorable shamans only ask willing spirits to grant their wrath, but most souls who have been aided by the shaman are willing to sacrifice themselves as they were going to pass on anyway.   Ancestors, on the other hand, do not wish to be consumed, and would consider it a great affront. Instead of dwelling in your family's own personal afterlife they are forced into the great cycle, to reincarnate, instead of doing so at a time of their choosing.   This magic grants them one extra action each round for the remainder of the scene.   Ancestral wrath requires soul vessel.
