The Countenance is a somewhat secret organisation operating within Vehasi. The group operates outside of the bounds of governments in the region, and has taken it upon themselves to ensure justice within the continent. Outsiders have described the group as "naive vigilante adventurers", as many believe that their hopes for a fair, just, and peaceful continent are well out of the bounds of what is possible in reality. However, the group continues to work at their goals, and some lucky few members have managed to make a difference.

Structure

The members of the Countenance are working for the organisation with no promise of pay or reward. The vast majority have a separate job on top of being a member of the organsiation, and none of its members are paid. The organisation is led by its Grand Watcher, a person who takes it upon themselves to keep track of all of the information passing though the continent, picking out important parts to be analysed by Watchers. Based on this information, the Watchers depermine locations and people of interest, which are then passed on to Keepers, who assign jobs to those working under them. The Keepers are responsible for recruiting, as well as for mentally keeping track of the members working under them - writing down this information is strictly forbidden, for the privacy and safety of the members; some of the governments of Vehasi take issue with the work of the Countenance, and have made efforts to take them down.

The structure of the Countenance allows for most members to be unaware of who else is in the organisation, other than the person that they report to. This is to protect the identities of the other members, in the case that a truth spell were to be used on one of the members. The Keepers and Grand Watcher are considered the most valuable members of the organisation for this reason, as their capture would lead to the reveal of large portions of the organisation. As such, great measures are taken to ensure both their anonymity and safety. This includes meeting other members under false identities or even through magical projection.

Each member of the Countenance carries with them a small symbol of the organisation. This is generally a token that can be hidden from sight and is not easily revealed, and one that can be quickly removed should the need arise. If necessary, a Countenance member can reveal their identity to another - however, they only do this if they know for sure that the other person is also a member, making this quite a rare occurance.

Culture

Members of the Countenance are often optimistic and believe in the innate goodness of people and the world. They believe that the world will always balance itself, and that good will always be triumphant over evil - however, it is still crucial to them that good should act against evil, lest the evil overtake the good. It is this mindset that motivates Countenance members to help enact this change, and to bring the events into motion that will lead into a better world. Despite the beliefs of others, Countenance members do not see the world in black and white; while they do think of good and evil as two opposing forces, most understand that there is more at play.

The Countenance is also often seen as naive for these beliefs. Many misunderstand them, viewing their ideals about the world as oversimplified and inaccurate. Others think that the organisation is wrong for thinking that they can change the world in the first place, with as small of a group as most outsiders think that the Countenance is. However, there are far more members than most believe there to be.

Public Agenda

The Countenance's goal is to rid the continent of corrupt leadership and tyranny, and to fight injustice wherever they can. Upon joining the Countenance, each member takes a vow swearing to do just that, a vow that they would be shunned from the organisation for breaking.

The public view of the organisation is a bit different, however. Due to misinformation spread by the governments that see the Countenance as an enemy, much of the general public remains wary of their goals, thinking of them as misinformed vigilantes that want to cause good, but go about it in inefficient and misguided ways that end up just causing trouble and strife.
