Time and the Mernacian Calendar

According to Norash Sunscryer, the Grand Astrologer of Mernac there are 20 hours in a day, 20 days in a moon (or month) and 20 moons (months) in a Season (year) on Mernac.   A "moon" is the time that Jahannan the smaller of Mernac's moons (redish-brown in color) takes from being completely full (waxed) to being completely full again. Jahannan is often thought by most Mernacian cultures to belong to Barak and The Other.   There is a second Moon in Mernac, The bluish-white Araf, which is thought to belong to "The One" and Siberlee, the Mother of all that is good. Araf has an inconsistent time between full moons.   The rare time that both moons are full on the same night is known as Chandralee and is thought by most to be a very sacred night, as this is the time that the Mothers may directly leave the Heavens and visit Mernac. Many mystical and wonderful things happen during Chandralee and the eve of Chandralee. Wth Araf having such an inconsistent time from waxing and waning Chandralee may occur every few Seasons or every few decades. In some cases, the occurrence may be centuries apart.   Conversely, when both moons are completely waned (neither moon shows in the sky) it is known as Voidis. This is almost always a bad omen and often signifies the beginnings of terrible events about to happen.   It is thought that if Voidis were to ever fall on Bella 1st (The Moon of Siberlee, the Mother of Good), that it would signify the end of "The Rule of Man" and the beginning of "The Time of the Beast."   As Araf has a very inconsistent orbit and varying times between being full, it is all but impossible to predict the specific day that Chandralee (Or Voidis) will occur.   The 20 moons and the order they come in is:   1) Bella – The Moon of the Mother Siberlee - Spring 2) Della – The Moon of the Mother Witriss - Spring 3) Troval – The Moon of the Mother Terees - Spring 4) Clina – The Moon of the Mother Dulan - Spring 5) Kandoral – The Moon of the Mother Kanola - Spring 6) Teevil – The Moon of the Mother Sola - Summer 7) Alyel – The Moon of the Mother Kala - Summer 8) Taesi – The Moon of the God Abuba - Summer 9) Trivo – The Moon of the God Roadius - Summer 10) Cylsera – The Moon of the God Picu - Summer 11) Bruda– The Moon of the Goddess Quont - Autumn 12) Tropsy – The Moon of the Goddess Gorb - Autumn 13) Asyana – The Moon of the Goddess Trajen - Autumn 14) Maldaar – The Moon of the Father Tul - Autumn 15) Pazima – The Moon of the Father Elsen - Winter 16) Nalore – The Moon of the Father Werk - Winter 17) Asari – The Moon of the Father Linthur - Winter 18) Anore – The Moon of the Father Tellen - Winter 19) Serin – The Moon of the Father BU - Winter 20) Ennore – The Moon of the Father Barak - Winter   Though it is not known for sure, it is suspected the months were named after the first name of each corresponding Gods Mothers.   The complete cycle of the 20 months is not referred to as a year but a “Season”. So, if a character is 10 seasons old, it means they have lived 200 moons (20 x10), or 4000 days (10 X 20 X 20)   Each Day of the month is thought to be named after the first name of the God’s Fathers when the were still Mortal   1) Allanar, The 1st day (Siberlee’s Day) 2) Boolan – The day of the Mother Witriss 3) Smarten – The day of the Mother Terees 4) Gilmore – The day of the Mother Dulan 5) Fivo – The day of the Mother Kanola 6) Entheas – The day of the Mother Sola 7) Thalor – The day of the Mother Kala 8) E'hamelle – The day of the God Abuba 9) Amethrius – The day of the God Roadius 10) Roogle – The day of the God Picu 11) Himple– The day of the Goddess Quont 12) Gazen – The day of the Goddess Gorb 13) Zinther – The day of the Goddess Trajen 14) Finther – The day of the Father Tul 15) Malduhr – The day of the Father Elsen 16) Dazma – The day of the Father Werk 17) Torum – The day of the Father Linthur 18) Garom – The day of the Father Tellen 19) Moroven – The day of the Father BU 20) Tavernly – The day of the Father Barak   It is thought by the Scribes and Sages who know of such matters that the 20 moons represent the seven Mothers and the 13 Fathers. It is for this reason many races are strict about when they procreate. This is because depending on different gestation periods they may try, or try to avoid, having children born in a Moon infer the Child may adopt the qualities of the Mother or Father of that Moon. To a lesser extent, some use potions from Alchemists and Menk healers to either accelerate or prolong actual birth if the parents desire their child to be born on the day of a specific Mother or Father.   Mernac 10,000 season history started with the creation of the Race of Man on Bella 1st, 1 AM. AM is sometimes shown at the end of a date and signifies “After Man.”. Time before man will end in BM signifying “Before Man.” It is thought, but none know for sure, that Mernac was created 17,000 Season before the Birth of Man   There are, of course, other special days throughout the year, but most of these are specific to specific Races, or sometimes even specific Classes, guilds, factions or Deities.
