Coronation

"Becoming a king is much more than just taking a crown and placing it on your head."
— Lorekeeper Aeron
For Avlans, having their own king is a big deal. While under the rule of the Sol Empire, appointed governors and generals came and went, ruling as they please, until eventually, they all left and never returned. There was no grand transition of power, just a simple letter from the emperor, and all of a sudden, the seal on the official letters from the usurpers have changed. Nothing really that could concern the common folk.   Ever since Avalonia has been left to its own devices and the local lords have been gaining on stability and power - until eventually, they decided that one of them should once again be a king. The old enthronement traditions were revived, crown jewels have been repaired and reset with new stones, and councils behind the closed doors decided how all of this should come to be.   A coronation is an opulent thing, while also serving as an example of how the new king will serve their people. It can last anytime from a day to a couple of weeks. The beginning ceremony is supposed to reflect the status of the country as a whole - mark their greatest achievement in politics, crafts, sciences, arts, trade and other activities. It is a celebration of what makes the Kingdom of Avalonia worth protecting.   Next usually follows the miracle. It is usually a speech by a member of the royal family (usually but not always the widow of the past king) declaring why the heir will now take upon their head the crown and lead people into the bright future ahead. The reason why the new king is chosen must be somehow miraculous. They must have done something in the past to prove they are worthy. Miracles usually include unusual weather phenomena, prophetic dreams or rescuing people from danger. Those versed in politics believe that most of these deeds are fake and just for show. It is not unusual for young children of the royal family to go on quests into the world to prove themselves worthy of being the potential heir.   The is follows the feast that the royal household holds for the common people. It symbolises the prosperity that is about to come. Sometimes mass weddings are also performed on that occassion.
