Nyarl

We were asked by Kiambe to find one of his oldest friends, a nyarl named Migisi, and to see if she would work for us. The nyarl are respected for more than the other "mongrel" races, and their powers of healing are second to none. If the Hammerfell company is to survive, Kiambe believes we need the respect of the city, and that Migisi can bring that respect to us. We will see.   --20th of Bronze, Year 74

Civilization and Culture

History

The Nyarl are not represented on the Forge Council but they extremely important to the life of The City of Stadupglod, as they are mostly the farmers and ranchers, working in the great terrace farms that run around the edge of the walls of the magma chamber of Ilsaka. Or training the varietal beasts of burden used throughout the city, and outside her walls. Such beasts are most common in the supply caravans that run from the Great Lowway back to the city. They worship Anatok the first dragon as a deity of life, in the Tenet of Beatha Practiced in several Abbeys throughout the city. They are the only race whose pillar magic isn’t suppressed by the Forge Council in any way in order to grow enough food to feed the city. Because of this they have taken it upon themselves to closely safeguard the rites, and teachings of their Pillar Magic. For they know too well what it could mean if Greed was ever used in an ill manner, and its use restricted as a result. The Nyarl are split into two subraces: Tuathanach and Ratan.   Tuathanach- The ex-immortals. They are tall and covered in thick fur, with long tails and fine whiskers. Most are excellent animal handlers and farmers, with many also master healers and medics, often working closely with the Cogni Agum to develop new ways to heal people and cure illness. They also are master survivalists, able to survive long amounts of time Tuathanach nyarl are most commonly the chosen of Beatha, called high priests, that presides over a congregation of faithful workers in its abbeys.   Ratan- The mortal-born. They are shorter, gaunt, and with patchy, wiry fur. Most are stealthy and shrewd, able to pass through large crowds and busy streets undetected. They are usually not as respected as the Tuathanach, but still work as farmers and hand laborers in many jobs in the city, with a famously hardy constitution. Many Ratan are thieves and assassins as well, living in the Undercity among a large network of criminals. These Nyral worship Nayrilis the god of criminals, who demands sacrifice in the form of stealing things of value and throwing them away or destroying them.
