Deadly Entertainers Organization in Space Opera Pirate Collab Thingy | World Anvil

Deadly Entertainers

A variant number of barely related people who travels through the universe just because. They live and travel in a Ship that may or may not be haunted, where everything is permitted and safety is not guaranteed.   They are very similar to pirates, because they ignore the laws and authorities, but they are not opposed to play by the rules if that is convenient. They have no interest in treasure, they only care about experiences.   Nobody knows exactly how it started and the only data they record is the name and —maybe— brief description of each planet they visit.

Structure

Just because they are lawless it doesn't mean Entertainers don't like order sometimes. You don't escape law and crime all over the universe for aeons without a good plan and someone to make adjustments on the go.
The plan is in general, quite simple: take and run. The details are defined by an unofficial group of leaders and tricksters and the adjustments in case of trouble are made by the same person that decides which planet to visit next: The Pilot.
To make it all happen, different people are in charge of keep several task or teams, some of them a constant in the ship's everyday functioning.
While any role can be filled by a volunteer or chosen by the pilot or the team they would lead, the common way to end on charge of something in the Graveyard is by doing it one time and having nobody to take the job later.
When more than one persons wants the same job, it can get really ugly really fast. The competition can cause divisions in the crew or a team, but that never last long before the candidates start fighting, and try to blackmail, sabotage, incapacitate or kill the other. The bright side is that it doesn't last long either. Soon one of them is too scared, defeated or dead to continue the conflict.

Culture

To the outsiders, it seems that this guys are close and loyal to each other, all cut from the same cloth. But the loyalty is only in the face of strangers and common enemies, and they have little in common other than wanting to enjoy the moment.
They trust the pilot to pick routes that would be fun for the majority, and to compensate those who are bored in a trip by giving them priority in the next one. Everyone do their part to keep things working and avoid dangers that could end their journey. That includes taking orders, sharing ideas, and even forgive and forget whenever necessary, but most of them do the latter simply because holding grudges is no fun.
Lone wolves are not uncommon but, for several members of the crew, part of the fun is to make friends with people they barely understand. Others prefer a familiar group of like-minded people. That causes the existence of all kind of micro cultures, some more heterogeneous than others.

Technological Level

Even if some tech based areas can be enjoyed in The Traveling Graveyard , and some of the crew members are well versed in science, as a group they consider that magic is more practical and they have no issues with flirting with the dangerous side of it.

Trade & Transport

They don't produce more than what they need to survive, but they often receive goods and money from passengers that want to try the experience of a lawless pleasure cruise and the occasional wealthy fugitive. If said payment is not useful, they exchange it for resources or experiences in the next planet.

Have fun and die trying.
