No One Comes Back Myth in Secret Agent Someone | World Anvil

No One Comes Back

A myth about a mountain, lake, cave or other landmark.
-Dimi & Janet
It is speculated by many W.I.L.L.O.W.I.S.P. personnel that once an agent is sent to The Styrax, they will never return.

Summary

While The Styrax is a place that is spoken highly of and advertised to agents as the best place they wish they'd never have to go, many operatives are skeptical. They fear that the internal hospital and theraputic retreat is all a front, and the real purpose of the island is to purge the force of rogue agents or others that W.I.L.L.O.W.I.S.P. believes should be disposed of.

Spread

This speculation is passed widely within circles of W.I.L.L.O.W.I.S.P. personnel stationed at bases all over the world. The public database of agent status is available to all internal W.I.L.L.O.W.I.S.P. operatives, and the status of all that were sent to The Styrax is not very hopeful for those headed there.

Variations & Mutation

From the beginning, agents wondered about the process of terminating operatives. Some believe that injured operatives are taken to The Styrax to be Erased. Others believe they are being held hostage or even killed. A slim population of W.I.L.L.O.W.I.S.P. personnel are convinced that the island is a true oasis, and those sent there never want to return. They live there happily and reside through retirement without a care in the world.

In Literature

The files of agents who have been sent to The Styrax reflect that they were discreetly relocated or reintegrated into society, are still currently enrolled in therapy or treatment on the island, or have unfortunately perished from their injuries. No agent returning to the workforce after a stay at The Styrax has ever been documented.

In Art

There are not many photographs of The Styrax or any buildings or equipment supposedly stationed there available to be seen, even by internal agents. Most of the documentation is conveyed by word of mouth, written descriptions, or 3d renderings.

Commander McCox Gives Newbies the Rundown:   ...Like I told you before... there's a rumor going around that I'm not so sure counts as a rumor. No one has ever come back from The Styrax. That's the absolute truth. So, whatever you do, DON'T GET SENT THERE. I'm warning you.
Date of First Recording
Ever since the first agents were sent to The Styrax a year or so after its creation, agents at bases all around the world quickly surmised the island was a point of no return.

Land of the Lost

The The Styrax is supposedly a paradise island, but no field agent working on the force today has set eyes on it. Only certain personnel are allowed to know the coordinates, and even they cannot see all the inner workings of the island. Their only tasks are to pick up injured and traumatized agents, cloak their senses so that they will not know where they are going, drop them off at the specified port, and head back to their base using a special protocol that makes it extremely hard for others to track. These transporters follow a strict non-disclosure agreement and do not reveal even the little information they know about the island to regular agents.

So who decides if some poor smuck gets styraxed?

lol sorry it's been a year XD I apparently missed your comment's notification. This is decided when the normal mainland WILLOWISP doctors deem there is nothing more that can be done, or if it seems the agent's injuries are so compromising that they will not be able to resume their position even after they have recovered.
