SpaceBase B-26 Settlement in Secret Agent Someone | World Anvil

SpaceBase B-26

SpaceBase B-26is o ne of W.I.L.L.O.W.I.S.P.'s B-class spaceports designated for research and general experimentation. It is not used to store dangerous materials, weaponry, or criminals like the X-class bases. The environment here is very calm and reminiscent of a corporate office level full of Base Operatives in a typical earth headquarters location. Some are completely void of human presence, but this one is furnished with a minimal crew to carry out the tasks at hand.
There are several reasons why W.I.L.L.O.W.I.S.P. conducts certain experiments and research in space as opposed to doing so on Earth. Some of the experiments and research can only be carried out in the atmosphere (or lack thereof) that the SpaceBases provide. Other missions are embarked upon in space to minimize the likelihood of discovery by opposing forces. It is also rare that a completely unsuspecting person will somehow randomly happen upon something unauthorized in space. Another reason for orbital experimentation is when the parties required for the task are dangerous criminals. The organization is known for capturing scientists with brilliant minds but questionable intentions. Being confined to a SpaceBase will decrease their chances of escape. Whether or not SpaceBase B-26 contains such criminal personnel is classified information.
SpaceBases are equipped with deflection technology that helps them to conceal themselves from other satellites that keep track of what enters and exits Earth's atmosphere. Often, W.I.L.L.O.W.I.S.P. engineers will study existant space debris and attempt to mimic its shape and size so that they can replace it with a functioning facility and go virtually undetected.
From the ground, the average person will be unable to spot SpaceBase B-26 as it does not give off any light. Once stationed in place, it gives off no electronic signals, nor does it emit noise. It lies dormant, showing no signs of life, movement, or energy.

In this photograph of Venus in the night sky, the SpaceBase B-26 cannot be seen, though it is technically in view of the camera. Much space debris floats around Earth at all times but it all often goes unnoticed by the average person.

Commander McCox gives newbies the rundown:   W.I.L.L.O.W.I.S.P. is known for having seveal facilities stationed all over the globe in various remote locations, but did you know that some of those bases are out of this world? Literally! That's right. W.I.L.L.O.W.I.S.P. has bases in space. Specifically, their called SpaceBases very original name, I know.   I'm sure you're wondering what the heck the agency is doing up in space. Why would W.I.L.L.O.W.I.S.P. need a station of its own? Well, that's simple, actually. There are different SpaceBases for different things. Some are research labs where scientific experiments are being conducted. Others are merely containment facilities to hold everything from dangerous tech to even more dangerous criminals. Some are way more boring. Simple observational satelites and such. Anyways, no need to worry about all that up there. I'm sure you'll have your feet planted firmly here down on the ground at least for the next couple of years.
