Firetongue

Firetongue is a language spoken primarily by the Huoin people which many outsiders find very difficult to master. Firetongue contains 8 spoken tones and uses script accents which depend on one's family.   It is often presumed that the primarily language of the Huoin people is the Cantari Language, but this is incorrect. However, most Huoin will learn Cantari and Common to at least some degree of fluency. This may have led to some Cantari and Common words used or blended into Firetongue.

Phonetics

The eight tones in Firetongue can be numbered one to eight if written in Common script. Each syllable contains one tone.   1 A steady high pitch
2 A steady low pitch
3 A falling high to mid pitch
4 A falling mid to low pitch
5 A falling then rising pitch
6 A short high pitch
7 A short low pitch
8 A steady tone with a hiss sound
In native Huodaan, the tones are integral for conversation, but second generation or third generation speakers outside of the country may drop the sixth and seventh tones.

Sentence Structure

Doubling

In Firetongue, doubling an adjective emphasises it. Instead of 'very good', one might say 'Zar4 zar4'. Occasionally, when expressing complex feelings or poetry, doubling won't be used as it is seen as lazy.
