Magic Classification System

Branches of Magic:

  • Foundation Note: I should base the most fundamental branches off of certain interactions
  • Attire:
  • - Little clothing has been the staple of what a mage looks like for a long time. The reason for this is that certain materials will alter the manipulation of magical energy. Mages in different cultures have different cultural variations, with some mages even casting in the nude. For the most part, it is light cloths that are favored. Modern research suggests that most metal and some leathers do not inherently resist or otherwise react to magic energy. For this reason, most modern civilizations have mages who wear specific materials that do not react to magical energy. As for intermediate and advanced mages, certain clothing is worn to augment the casting of spells, though these materials are usually restricted to the limbs or, in the case of of species like the Faron, the areas around their “Nodes”.

    Books:

  • Arcane Lexicon: Considered by modern scholars to be the earliest written record of spells in the known world.
  • Pulse Codex: This is the most widely known written record among the allied nations. It is constantly updated, though each nation keeps a separate copy. It is comprehensive in name only, as each copy contains missing pieces.
  • Vira Compendium: Contains all known research on Vira.
  • Sol Compendium: Contains all known research on Sol.
  • Lumin Compendium: Contains all known research on Lumin. This is a secret compendium.
  • Shroud Dissertations: These essays are written by generations of Shroud theologians, dictating which spells are allowed and which ones aren't. They are also classified by the status of the caster. The higher in rank a person is, the fewer restrictions they are given. There is also a subset of annihilating magicks that are restricted to Knightmares and other elite peacekeepers.
  • The Unified Magical Classification System (UMCS):

  • The Unified Magical Classification System was developed in the years following the great war. It was an attempt to organize and classify common magical spells and their properties.
  •
Vira: Yellow Green Sol: Orange Red Lumin: Blue Purple   General:
  • The colors produced by magic in a caster are not fixed. They also depend on environmental factors and chance.

    Spell Classifications:

  • How spells are grouped in knowledge databases is based on a number of different things.
  •

    Classifications:

  • Three Category System: Offense, Defense, and Utility categories.
  • Branch: The branch and sub-branch of magic the spell belongs to. Some spells will belong to more than one branch. [MAYBE NOT]
  • Difficulty: The estimated difficulty of learning and casting the spell. These include “Basic”, “Intermediate”, “Advanced”, and “Superior”. Some include a higher category “Legendary”, but these are spells that only Orchestrators are thought to be able to wield, or those gifted with their boons.
  • Cast Type: Cast type includes “Enchantment”, “Sustain”, and “One-off”. Sustained spells can be “Partial Sustain” or “Full Sustain”. There are many irregular cast types.
  • Cost: X
  •

    Three Category System:

  • This system is an official attempt by the Blight Seeker’s Guild to construct a unified categorization and classification system for magic. Most magic does not fall into one category, but it tries to categorize the common applications of that magic.
