Petrified Wood

A peculiar material that resembles the wood of a tree, but somehow turned to stone. No one is sure how it is formed, and it is not found anywhere in Pretheya; instead arriving on the continent in the holds of traders from the Western Lands. Some say that it is created when a nature spirit is struck by lightning, which transforms it into this substance. The patterns visible in slices of petrified wood have enchanted onlookers for centuries, and they are often used as bulky coasters or tablemats. According to legend, it is possible to hear them scream if one accidentally spills hot coffee on it.
