Techniques
Techniques are the powers that define what Cultivators can actually do with the Cultivation they practice. They are always active abilities and always use Qi, or an even mix of Stamina and Magia if the Cultivator is progressing Cultivation as their secondary path and as such doesn't have Qi.
A Cultivator gains their chosen path's three techniques upon reaching the Mid Foundational phase of Cultivation, and these techniques are the same for every Cultivator who follows the same path of Cultivation and cannot be altered directly, though they can be mastered and refined (as noted below). The only way for a Cultivator to obtain more techniques is to obtain a secondary path and gain the three techniques of that path after it reaches the Mid Foundational phase. Techniques are generally noted to be the most innately powerful type of active power, but also the most restrictive, as they are tied to paths and only 6 are ever available to a Cultivator, all of which are intrinsically tied to the identity and theme of said paths they originate from.
Techniques

Technique Mastery
The main form of improvement for techniques, all techniques have a mastery level that ranges from 1 to 5, and they begin at mastery 1. Mastery of a technique is improved through use of it, with the maximum mastery level of the technique increasing in lockstep with its refinement tier (noted below). Mastering a technique directly improves its non-efficiency metrics; it can deal more damage, affect a wider area, deliver more potent benefits, and so on.Technique Refinement
Like Skills, Abilities and Essences, it is possible to refine techniques, which fills the other aspect of improvement when added to mastery of them. Refinements for techniques are restricted to 5 tiers - unlike the usual 10 - and focus on improving Qi (or Magia, but never Stamina) efficiency of a technique, allowing them to be used more often and for less Qi. Like all other forms of refinement, progress towards refinement comes from special Quests issued by the System to show mastery of the technique.Technique Options
