Aspects
Aspects are a nuanced but secondary aspect of Cultivation that offers unique boons that can't be obtained anywhere else, but as a result require a cultivator to revolve their entire build around them. A Cultivator's one (and only) Aspect is available to them when their primary path reaches the Mid Foundational phase.
An Aspect is a prevailing theme to cultivation; many cultivators prefer to be aspect-less as this lets them blend a wide variety of different Perks and Techniques into their build, but an Aspect doesn't permit this, it restricts a cultivator's journey to only things related to that theme, such as the Fire theme requiring every aspect of the cultivator's build to be fire-related or unrelated to any other Aspect theme.
Aspects are elemental in nature, generally covering elemental damage types - fire, ice, water, wind and so on - and restrict a Cultivator to only using techniques of that element and selecting paths that have a theme matching that element, and only by selecting special paths can they gain Techniques that oppose the element.
When a Cultivator's Aspect is chosen, - if it is - it doesn't have to match the primary path of a Cultivator, though; after being selected, the primary path is given the theme of the Aspect chosen, but the Techniques are left as they were, even if their element opposes the theme, but the secondary path chosen by a Cultivator in the Heavenly stage must match the Aspect chosen.
For all of the drawbacks of Aspects and how narrow they are in scope, they compensate for that by granting access to Aspect Perks, a special kind of Perk on their own separate sections of the perk tree that cannot be accessed in any way, all of which align with the elements of Aspects, and all of which are very powerful. These sub-sections aren't massive - no more than 10 perks large each - but they offer significant power boosts over regular perks and effectively 'specialize' a Cultivator into that aspect.
As a result, while many Cultivators value the flexibility that eschewing Aspects gives them, there are plenty of reasons to specialize a Cultivation build by selecting one, and they are well and truly worthwhile.
