Estates of the Ancestors

"It is for the elder man to rule and for the younger to submit." -- Plato
When one comes from a Familial Ethnicity, dedicated to the honor and respect for their ancestors, this ardor for the elders manifests in many ways.   1. They tend to be Geratocracies, ruled by those who remember more clearly the wishes of those Ancient ones for whom they still burn the torches.
2. They prefer many of the 'old ways' to not offend or disrespect the Elders who made the tradition.
3. The naming conventions for children are usually pretty specific and stark. Either they use old names to honor the elders, or they never use an old name to leave it sacred.
4. Places are usually also named for or because of historic detail or memorable actions that occurred in the area.
5. Birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays are all really important to the Ancestral Ethos. Time is itself a limited resource.
IN an Ancestors ethnic population, it isn't only a hierarchy - it is a competition to live longer and to do and be memorable. Below is a general list of a kind of ranking that might be used in such a structure
Class
Priority
Rank/
Title
Age
Basis
Qualification for
Rank/Title
Upper High Reverend One 80% Max Age Parent and Spouse
Middle High Grand Sire Grand Dame 70% Max Age Parent and Spouse
Lower High Senator/ Senatrix 60% Max Age Spouse
Upper Mid Sibling/ Brother Sister 40% Max Age
Lower Mid Cousin 30% Max Age
Lower Kinsmen Blood Relative
Note that each Estate measures value differently, so for instance, Ancestry does not measure by how wealthy in terms of money or assets, so a Revered One might be destitute, and a Sibling might be filthy rich...
