Planar Cosmology

In the realm, there are many people who believe that the deities and powerful beings still reside in a place in line with the rest of us. I believe that some day we will die and walk out further into the places beyond here to see the wonders of the celestial planes.

The planar structure of Nonvyrox is a unique specimen, giving a variety to the setting from other similar fantasy realms. There are many inspirations in the formation of the Planes of Nonvyrox, including the original planar cosmology of Dungeons and Dragons. However, there are some unique and different inspirations that are occuring in Nonvyrox, particularly the Outer Worlds.   This article highlights some parts of the planes, but gives a teaser of what can be found in the more detailed articles linked in the headings.

Inner Worlds

The Inner Worlds are a selection of planes that exist around the Material Plane, Nonvyrox itself. These planes exist on the same level of existence as the Material Plane and in many cases have rifts between them without any extra magic. Surrounding the Inner Worlds is the Ether which allows for travel between the realms using magic.

Material Plane

This is the main plane of mortal existence and where Nonvyrox iteslf exists. While there are some unique elements of this plane, the majority of its uniquness comes from being the majority of the world overall. Every plane is looked at in relation to the Material Plane, as most mortals relate themselves to the other planes.

Fae Lands

A mirror of the Material Plane, the Fae Lands are the plane of origin for many different creatures. Embroiled in a vast array of Court politics, the realm has powerful figures who preside over these vibrant and chaotic realms filled with magic. There are direct crossings that occur between the Fae Lands and the Material Plane, with some being consistent over the years, whilst some move or flare up at different times during the seasons. Relatively, time works different and much more chaotically than the Material Plane, leading many to experience a shift in time between the moments they enter and when they leave, unless other magics intervene.

Shadecrest

While the Fae Lands are a vibrant and chaotic reflection of the Material Plane, Shadecrest is a darker reflection. Many locations from the Material Plane can be found in Shadecrest, but the way in which they exist fills someone with a sense of dread. Once vibrant cities filled with colour are now desolate ruins, filled with shades and shadows. This realm is inabited by a range of undead creatures, monstrocities, and ancient demons who have hidden in this realm. Unlike the Fae Lands, time doesn't seem to pass in Shadecrest, yet when leaving the plane, people struggle to remember their time there, as if its clouded in darkness. As a result, only the strong of will and mind are able to remember a trip to Shadecrest. Deep in this realm is the home of Corvina, who can sometimes be contacted by those who venture into this domain.

Dream and Nightmare

These are the dual realms presided over by Tral'Vokar. They represent positive and negative dreams, each linked closely through the place known as The Nexus, a part of the realm that is devoid of any of the dream energies that Tral'Vokar maintains in the other realms. Dream is almost as vast as the realm of the Fae Lands, containing hopes for the future, writings unwritten, and moments in time captured to relive. Nightmare on the other hand is meant to be a dark reflection of the worst fears of an individual, intentionally causing them harm. As a result, Tral'Vokar chooses to step more into Dream than Nightmare, causing factions within Nightmare to try and vie for power in the realm. Primarily mortals travel to Dream or Nightmare when they fall asleep, their conciousness visting the realm while their physically body remains safe. But sometimes, mortals travel physically over to the realm leading to a much more dangerous experience.

Inner Foci

The combination of six different smaller planes of existence, the Inner Foci comprises of the four elemental planes and the two of positive and negative energies. Each of these have a ruler, one of the primordial titans of the Material Plane. The combined energies of the Positive and Negative Foci flow through the other Inner Foci: Ignisa, Terras, Aevra, and Undaqa, this causes the creatures of these realms to be influenced by an intense wave of these energies. Within each of the planes, scores of elemental creatures have been created to form armies for their relevant leaders, and cities have been created to enslave mortals who find themselves entering the Inner Foci. There are occasional pockets of the other Inner Foci in the realms, where they overlap, elementals are changed to represent the region around them. For example, magma, smoke, ice, and dust elementals stem from these overlaps.

Outer Realms

The Outer Realms are a selection of planes that expand out further from the Material Plane, they exist around a place known as The Void, an eternal darkness and nothingness that acts as a boundary of everything in this existence. The Outer Realms are numerous, but each of them have a link to an essential element of the world.

Infernal Planes

Created by the power of Disaki, the Infernal Planes were an empty plane that he collided with his Divine Domain. In doing so, it fragmented into eleven layers. Over the centuries, Disaki has embedded an arch-devil into each of the layers to take control. He has also seemingly been bound by the art of contracts. This has been invoked upon the planes themselves, with devils gambling lives and souls across the realm. The realm itself ranges from dark and damp caves with screaming souls suffering in freezing cold water, to fire and brimstone that burns all those who walk across the ground.

Demonic Realms

Split into a near infinite number of layers, the Demonic Realms are inhabited by ancient beings that were created before The Dawning. As a result, the realms have had time to grow over the infinite time that it has existed. Each of the layers has a Demon that controls the realm, designating them as a Demon Lord. Sometimes these Demon Lords entrust one of their many planes to a powerful general known as a Grand Demon.

Greying Fields

This entire plane is filled with a strong sense of emptyness. The Greying Fields look monochromatic to all beings who enter it, with fields of some kind of grain filling the whole plane. It seems strange to all those who enter the realm. However, its most defining feature is that this realm is the main battlefield between Devils and Demons, an ancient war as they both were promised the Material Plane if they were able to conquer it. The Greying Fields constantly returns back to its grain based form, but almost constantly across the realm, the sounds of war can be heard constantly, with bodies of various Demons and Devils scattered, just hidden beneath the grain.

Chaotra

With flares of elemental energy seeping through from the Inner Foci, Chaotra is filled with a swarm of elemental chaos that fills the various regions of the world with a mass of chaotic elemental features. There are some places which are stable in the plane, but, most of the former inhabitants of the realm were unable to remain in the realm due to the chaos of the relam, leading the formerly lush and strong realm, being empty and filled with nothing other than some mutated creatures and powerful elemental storms.

Ourana

While many celestials reside within the divine domain of their deity, Ourana is a plane where they can gather. Typically these are celetial followers of The Heraldic Gods, however, if there are celestials who worship Deceiver Gods, they can sometimes be permitted into the plane, depending on their intent. The entirity of Ourana is covered by a blessing to speak only truth and to have intentions revealed, this is designed to keep the plane safe. Additionally, powerful celestial constructs were made to ensure that there was no fighting among those within the plane, these constructs roaming the plane eternally prepared for any act of agression.

Aesillum

A large almost eternal forest, Aseillum is considered by many to be the great hunting lands. A place where beasts of all shapes, sizes and feelings travel and roam free. While there is predator and prey, all animal spirits find themselves constantly returning to this place. Across the forest there are different biomes, each able to house many different types of animals. But the most beautiful thing are the large cliff faces made of a bright white metal that glints in the sun. Some birds seem to have started chipping away at these mountains, creating homes for all manner of creatures. Occassionally, some of the celestial beings come to this region to hunt or enjoy nature, blessed by Mandra's hand.

Veldenheim

An eternal winter, Veldenheim is said to be home to some of the greatest craftspeople from across the world, their divine souls transformed into magnificent creations of steel and flesh. Veldenheim was once controlled by Klardis causing the everfalling snow. But over the centuries as more and more souls came to inhabit the realm, causing points where the snow has melted for active volcanic forges, strong enough to create divine metals. Deep within the caverns below, there are many mines dedicated to finding precious metals that seem to hide deeper in Veldenheim. But very few dare to dig deeper into the plane because of the creatures that swarm so far below the surface, remnants of Klardis' previous occupation, creatures designed from experiments of torture and pain.

Divine Domains

The Divine Domains are a set of planes that are nebulus in their location, but in most models of the cosmology make up the furthest ring of planes in the cosmological worlds. This means that the only thing beyond is the space labelled as the Outer Reaches. There are as many Divine Domains as there are deities within the world, so this article will highlight some of the Divine Domains that are unique and separate from other planes.

Voidmind

A dark and dingy place that acts as the Divine Domain of Azrovil. Once a city brighter than the Radiant City, Voidmind is now a confusing mess of stairs, walls, and floors in complete darkness. Each part of the plane is filled with a vast array of different strange and twisted creatures created by the maddening mind of Azrovil, each manipulated to change an element of their physiology and invoke a strange madness in each of them. The ruins that are now the Voidmind have Azrovil entombed in the middle of them, powering the Domain with only his mind, but most importantly, its forming a new and burgeoning area for the moment that Azrovil escapes form his binds.

Celestial Forge

Home of Djanrol and his burgeoning militia of celestials, his Divine Domain share a two fold purpose, being a huge forge under which his crafting celestials can craft equipment and art that rivals even the works of Veldenheim. However, it also serves as the home of his many bands of militia, each commanding thousands of souls in the art of war. Djanrol created the Celestial Forge in that all the power of the Forge emanates out into this large city-like structure that houses all of the people on the plane. Each of the people earning a home with other people, a barracks. Only those of high regard for Djanrol get their own room, with some sharing barracks of single rooms. Powerful celestials are sequestered into their own bands of fighters, the strongest being the Alphelia Solgarde.

Nexus

The divine domain of Tral'Vokar, the Nexus acts as a bridge between Dream and Nightmare. In this place, there is no solid matter unless Tral'Vokar makes it. Sometimes Tral'Vokar summons people to this place rather than their intended plane of slumber as a way to communicate with both followers and people that pique his interest. Often times, there is a small home, similar to that of a small modestfamily, in the Nexus, a home for Tral'Vokar and his various partners, including his wedded partner Shathol.

Radiant City

The Divine Domain of Tyril, the Radiant City is a bright and shining city made of white marble and various metals like gold and silver. The city is filled with Tyril's militia and the souls of his most devout folowers, creating a place that is warm and welcoming to all. Each of the people in the realm having their own house in the endless city of the realm. In the centre of the plane is the Citadel of Peace, the home of Tyril and a common meeting place for several of the metallic Guardian Dragons who reside within the plane alongside Tyril.

Shadecreek

Within Shadowcrest exists a portal to Corvina's Divine Domain, the Shadecreek. The place is a small forest of two sides, one filled with lucious life, flowers blooming. The other side is filled with death and decayed carcasses. This realm highlighting the duality of Corvina's portfolio. However, in the centre of the Domain lies a fortress that stands taller than anything else within the creek. This fortress is an expression of Corvina's mortal life, similar to the one that she was born into. As a result, it is her home and the place that she pulls any of her followers in Shadowcrest towards. The fortress is made of a beautiful obsidian that is offset by marbling that is a seemingly pure white and gold that line several parts of the fortress.

Reading about different planes is always fun. I love the idea of Aesillum especially.
