Kyana Tears, also know as Memory Vaults, were small arcane orbs that allowed users to store memories, files, or other important information inside of them. They were commonly used during the Age of Creation, but information around them, including the location of many of them, was lost during The Shatter.

Described in historical texts as small orbs, the Kyana Tears were so named because they usually had a small arcane tail, making them look like teardrops. They were often a shade based on the type of information they held, usually linking to the fact that they were used to store a variety of different types of information, so one person may have multiple different variations.

Information is unclear surrounding how the Tears were used by those without magical abilities. Some believe that arcane mechanics were used to create devices to allow the storage of particular information. Many scholars point to the fact that they only know of arcanists who used the Tears suggesting magic is a required source of the Tear's power.

History

Much of the history of Kyana Tears is pieced together from accounts of their existence. As such, much of the information here is fragmented and reveals only what is known about the Tears.

The Tears are named after their creator Kyana Agnara, a powerful Arvadian Arcanist who focused on Transmutation, Enchantment, and Alkemancy magic. Originally, she created the Tears as a way to simple store messages that she could send along to her colleagues, a solid form of the existing capabilities of arcanists. However, her study led her to find that the small orbs she had created could store much more information, leading to her delving further into the study.

By the second century of Arvadian culture, there are numerous reports that the Tears were commonly used by Arcanists, not just to send messages, but to store copies of their work, administrative files, and even in some cases memories. When storing memories, the orbs would allow someone to look back on the moment as if they were there, allowing a counter for any memory modification.

Much of the information regarding Kyana Tears falls away during the end of the Age of Creation into The Shatter. Much of their history remains as guesswork for scholars to fill in from any possible further accounts, though none have been found. This has led many to believe that in the face of war, the use of Tears faded out.

At least three Kyana Tears have been recovered since The Parting. However, the ability to understand what is contained within them has been lost, with people obtaining small fragments of information, but nothing like the accounts suggested. Some Arcane Antiquarians have been studying each of the Tears to unlock their full potential.

Techno-Arcanum

The existence of Kyana Tears has brought into question the debate on where the lines cross between magic and technology. Some say the limit is undefinable, while others point to the need for mechanical components to allow something to be technological.

The idea that the Kyana Tears likely interacted with both magical and technological components has caused slight upheaval, creating the term Techno-Arcanum, a blend of both Technology and Arcane components. This has become a field of study and invention for many, leading to the creation of technology such as the Luthstone Shield, Ethrocart, and Skyships.

Theories Abound

There are many who debate what a potential Kyana Tear could contain. The sum knowledge of the Arvadians, prophecies of days yet to come, intricate moments between famous people. This has led to an uptake in scholarly research attempting to find Kyana Tears, with several Arcanologists being dispatched to discover more about the technology by delving into the various ancient ruins.

Though it has remained a hidden secret, there are a number of organizations that believe The Grand Archive of the Obsidian Forge possess a Kyana Tear deep within their vault in Sovmora.

If found, this would help allow for the mass storage and transportation of information. It would also unlock secret potential in Alkemancy, highlighting further ways that the school of magic could be used in spellcraft.
Unkown	Discovered in 209 AR	A small golden orb with a red arcane trail, this was the first Kyana Tear discovered. It was hidden within an ruined ancient library deep within the Slycol Desert among a selection of other books frozen in a moment. Despite being found more than 5 centuries ago, no one has unlocked the potential of the Tear, let alone learning who created it. One fragment of information from within the Tear suggests that it contains a parent's memories of their child, early moments like their first steps and first words.
Teldran Cor'ransir	Discovered in 549 AR	A silver orb with a blue arcane trail, this Tear was discovered in a small vault, magically sealed in the Arvadian ruins of Temadomo. The orb was immediately delivered to the hands of Lord Cara'loth Moorelane, who has been studying it for the past 200 years. While he hasn't unlocked its potential in full, he has learned that the Tear contains information about Kalemancy from the arcanist Teldran Cor'ranisr, furthering his own study into the ancient school of magic. Particularly he was able to descern the ability to cast spells without the need for spoken components, just the alteration of his vocal chords.
Enoch Ylvaris	Discovered in 755 AR	Found in the early part of 755 AR among a collection of ancient artifacts in Sovmora, the deep crimson orb has a tail of bright orange, makign it look like a flame. Upon its discovery, the Lawmasters inspected it, causing one of them to hear the name of Enoch Ylvaris, the catalyst for The Shatter. Immediately, the Kyana Tear was sealed deep within a vault watched over by the Lawmasters, its existence hidden from the public. However, over the past few months, rumors of its existence have started to circulate.
