Ecrin Logging Town Settlement in Niya-Yur | World Anvil

Ecrin Logging Town

an industrial, mining, logging or other production settlement.   Situated at the end of the southern trade road South of Tresteg and Rico, Alta is a tiny ghost town with several original buildings still standing. The high elevation mining town was located at 11,800 feet.   Built on the north side of a Scarnet Summit on the very edge of the Delgough Mountain range on the southern border of Nasur, the logging settlement of Ecrin is home to human, dwarves, halflings, and gnomes lead by Mayor Lindiath.   This settlement wasn't built so close to the Circumveni Desert by accident, as it has magical properties of the Circumveni Desert, which is of great importance to the people of Ecrin and its success. The magic imparts the flora and fauna with unusual abilities and characteristics. Of greatest interest are the tall Disthian Cedars which grow in the area. The Ceder trees, like most cedar trees, have a chemical sap that repels insects and vermin. These trees have a number of unusual properties, the most important of which is the speed of their growth. They grow slightly faster than fir trees, meaning that with careful rotation the town has an endless supply of hardwoods to export.   Disthian Cedar has many interesting properties:
  1. Grows 20% faster than fir trees
  2. planks have significantly better insect repellent properties than normal cedar
  3. in addition to repelling insects Disthian Cedar planks also repel larger vermin like mice, rats, rabbits, etc.
  4. the wood is denser than cedar having properties more like Buloke with a Janka hardness of 4,930 lbf
  5. items stored in containers made of 100% Disthian Cedar takes 10x longer to spoil, or rot and they never get moldy, so cheeses, in particular, can be preserved for years.
The settlement itself looks impressive. With its Disthian Cedar rooftops treated and stained, walls of oil rubbed cedar, and babbling creeks throughout, Ecrin has an otherworldly atmosphere. The settlement has a thick wall made of cedar logs and large stones from carving the mountainside plateau it sits on.   The main attraction is the logging and milling work.   Ecrin has a stable but small economy, which is mainly supported by wood-crafting, jewel crafting from a few jewel mines, and wood production.   Despite its strengths and weaknesses, Ecrin is most likely headed towards a pleasant future under the leadership of Mayor Lindiath. But this remains to be seen.
