Entanglement

Every single human has two threads attached to their soul - the thread of life (which is red) and the thread of fate (which is white). The thread of life unravels with one experiences and is therefore maluable and able to create connections with the people and things we choose in life - friends, loved ones or places. The thread of fate is the one everyone is born with, it's all the connection gain through our ancestors or important historical events that still affect the goings of current society. No one chooses where the thread of fate is pulling them, they can only follow or loop around it.
Entanglement is a condition that affects this second soul-thread and can be extremely dangerous - yet some people are so fascinated by it that they are willingly going out of their way to achieve it. Some people are not satisfied with the idea that one should simply follow their fate and try to make as much out of their life that they can within its constraints. Some people want more. Some people want to get in charge of their time spent on Earth and are willing to do anything to achieve that. So while majority of the population are trying to do their best with what they have been given, there are still those from time to time who will risk anything to change their future and are not deterred by the scary consequences such actions might lead to.
It is not wise to tug on the thread of fate and most Embroiderers and other people who dabble in magic only ever dare to do just that - gently tug and maybe pull on it a tiny bit, but not more. Entanglement means there are knots and tangles created on your soul-thread and such strain naturally affects the core of your very being. In order to defy your fate, you have to sacrifice your humanity and you never quite know what you will get instead. For some, that is an acceptable price to pay for glory.
