Emerald Monarch Goose Species in Nehwon | World Anvil

Emerald Monarch Goose

The Emerald Monarch Goose is so named for its emerald-green eyes and distinctive, regal facial markings. Likewise, it has a "regal" way of walking, holding its head high while walking, bowing in a courtly manner to other geese it encounters, and having an overall "noble" air.   The species is dimorphous whereas the male has a more distinctive and bold black pattern around his eyes and a more vibrantly green colored iris.   The average clutch size is comprised of 6 white eggs that have emerald-green specks on their shells. The eggs are considered a delicacy and can only be found in high-end eating establishments or within the kitchens of Nobles and Royals.   The Emerald Monarch's feathers are extremely sturdy and extremely soft. Their feather quality is so high that they are often used in the pillows and mattresses of Nobles, and used as writing quills for wizards, scribes, scholars and so forth.   The Emerald Monarch's eggs and feathers are seen as a status symbol as they can only be afforded by the wealthy. As such, their feathers are an economic mainstay of the Village of Featherdown, a Lightfoot Halfling farming village located on the mainland of Western Newhon, north of the River Tilth where it splits southward to the Horborixen Empire. Because of their value, villagers of Featherdown guard their flocks heavily and only sell eggs that are infertile in order to monopolize the supply.
