The Helmut or Helmuth are a race of canid-featured, celestial shape-shifters with a deeply rooted guardianship complex. Incredibly passionate, fiery & loyal, the Helmut do not 'guard' their charges - so much as police every matter surrounding their safekeeping. A helmut's charge becomes their singular reason for existence - sexual, social, professional & personal. So intense is their dedication to the purpose set out for them that they will gladly throw away their lives if it means that their guardianship will be maintained.No Trifle Dog
The Helmut are no mere mutts to be cast aside; rumoured to be the guard dogs of the gods, the Helmut are incredibly capable trackers, warriors & guardians. Not only this, but their incredible Willpower makes them nigh impossible to kill through conventional methods. To do away with a Helmut, you must destroy its entirety; flesh & soul - a beheaded Helmut can still bite. To complicate matters further for those who may threaten their charge, the Helmut can summon up Obosses on a worldly plain; harnessing immense magical power from a nearly bottomless pit of it within themselves.Voracious Eaters
The Helmut are an incredibly hungry, voracious species that feeds off the Flesh, Bone, Bodily Fluids & Soul of their prey; fully capable of consuming them in their entirety. A Helmut on the hunt will mercilessly hunt & massacre most living creatures, if it means fulfilling their hunger for the moment. To this end, most Helmut prefer hunting the Fauna of their surroundings, but will gladly chow down on those who challenge the safety & wellbeing of their charge.Immortal Guardians
The Helmut are curiously untethered from the biological processes of time, some living lives long enough to recall the first ages of Tawdrii, while others yet have forgotten more than some living species have ever recorded. In addition to this, an even more bizarre circumstance surrounds the materialization of Helmut back into the world shortly after their biological death, often not too far from their most strongly bonded charge. In prescription to this, the only feasible way to ensure the destruction of any Helmut is the complete destruction of body & soul.Basic Information
Anatomy
The Helmut feature two distinct morpholigy, which they can change between at will;
- A humanoid morphology that features a pointed tail, maliciously clawed digits & a pair of canine-like ears.
- A canid morphology that averages approximately 155% the size of a grey wolf & features much more prominent predatory features such as more elongated, resilient teeth & snout, larger clawed paws & pronounced ears.
Biological Traits
The Helmut have four distinct biological groups
- Male Helmut are the smaller & more physically diminuitive of the species, approximately 70% of the size of their female counterparts.
- Female Helmut are the larger & more physically robust of the species & often display much more heightened aggression versus their male counterparts.
- Dominae Helmut are specifically distinct as being the largest & most aggressive of the species; a female subgroup which is almost twice the size of the norm & display incredibly heightened aggression. (~4%)
- Venetor Helmut are specifically distinct as being the most capable of utilizing their physical & metaphysical senses for the purpose of tracking; set apart by their more congenial attitude, smaller stature & physique when compared to other Helmut. (~6%)
Genetics and Reproduction
The Helmut reproduce through sexual intercourse but suffer from an atrocious pregnancy rate; to this end, most Helmut are born into the world through a form of Shapechanging performed by a powerful Patron who then becomes the Helmut's first & most powerfully bonded charge.
The natural pregnancy rate of Helmut is <0.002% resulting in natural pregnancy being a near impossibility. When a Helmut is naturally impregnated or impregnates another race, it will always produce Helmut offspring unless otherwise stated.
Growth Rate & Stages
Helmut takes three days to seventeen days from the date of their birth to reach adulthood - this period varies based on two factors:

Ecology and Habitats
The Helmut are capable of immense thermoregulation & environmental stability by nature, a process that takes place without any thought or action on the part of the Helmut. Because of this, Helmut are able to sustain themselves while in direct contact with most open flames up to ~1200°C (2192°C), as well as while in environments below -120°C (-184°F) with minimal discomfort.
Dietary Needs and Habits
The Helmut are Voracious and must eat at least one freshly killed or living being per day to sustain themselves. The Helmut are capable of consuming all parts of their prey; flesh, bone, bodily fluids & soul.
The Helmut tend to hunt their own prey from their surrounding environment, and are incredibly adept at this process, however, are not opposed to having their food prepared for them. Additionally, Helmut can provide partial (~20%) sustenance by feeding on a creature without killing it through exsanguination or succubation.
Biological Cycle
The Helmut experience two biological cycles during their lives;
- Hibernatory period: During the winter & fall temperatures of any period of time, the Helmut become more languid & habitually eat more.
- Estrus period: Every six weeks a female Helmut will enter into a period of excited sexual receptivity; this does not affect their pregnancy rate.
Additional Information
Domestication
Helmut are, by their nature, somewhat domesticated. The psychological imprinting process that they go through while bonding with their charge leaves them rather unlikely to disobey instructions given to them, though they can resist the urge to follow commands, they are much more prone not to unless given good reason.
To this end, particularly devoted servants of a faction or noble family may choose to undergo a Shapechanging ritual to adopt the Helmut race to show their dedication to their patrons.
Facial characteristics
The Helmut feature stark white hair, bright crimson red eyes & a pair of canine ears while in their humanoid form.
While adopting their canid morphology, a Helmut will always feature crimson red eyes.
Average Intelligence
The Helmut are of average intelligence, with the Dominae & Venetor of their species both showing a slightly above average trend in intelligence.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
The Helmut are incredibly capable in all categories of normal senses, outstripping even their canid brethren in almost every facet of worldly awareness - in combination with their astute sense of their surroundings, the Helmut are gifted with a sense of smell that transcends the mortal realm. Any Helmut is more than capable of identifying the scent of magic on the air, while the most well-trained of Helmut can discern the direction, form of energy, time of use, kind of werk or ritual performed & if the magic was performed using willpower or a source.
Civilization and Culture
Gender Ideals
All Helmut are expected to give themselves to protect their charge & their wellbeing, regardless of their gender or biological grouping.
Courtship Ideals
Helmut do not participate in any courtship rituals or acts, instead preferring to simply take what they want.
- Helmut care not for consent besides that of their charge.
- Unless kept at heel by their patron or a recognizable authority, a Helmut will take what they please.
- Helmut do not court lovers - as they will tell you... they fuck.
- Uneducated in romance and courtship the Helmut make terrible seducers.
- Helmut instructed to court an individual by their patron will follow instructions as best they understand them.
- Helmut often underestimate their strength... this can be troublesome when they are instructed to perform certain physical acts of courtship.
Relationship Ideals
Helmut are loyal to a tee and are passionate guardians of their charges.
- Helmut seek no relationships outside of those with their bonded charges & patron.
- Helmut see any betrayal or disloyalty to their charges or patrons as UNACCEPTABLE; and would rather die than earn their distrust.
- Helmut do not value any other form of relationship, and will gladly beat their own mother with a stick until they have vertigo for $5 as long as it doesn't go against the wishes & best interest of their charge or patron.

The Helmut have an innate understanding of all the languages of their Patron or charge as a result of their bond.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
The Helmut have lukewarm relations with most races, except Voracious or Predacious races, which they often characterize as high risk to themselves & their charge.

The Helmut are of larger stature than the average human & are gifted with exceptional strength, speed & reactions approximately six times that of the regular human; this is even more noticeable in the Dominae of the race, who may be up to twice the size & strength of other females of the species.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Helmut skin tones, while humanoid, are on the side of a pale complexion, but the rare occasion has cropped up of pale pastel color skin tones - Helmut generally avoid any kind of marking except those placed on them by their charge.
On the side of their canid appearance, Helmut always sport a raven black coat of hair.
