Ironcrown | Lost Waves

Ironcrown

This is the capital of the Baratox Conglomerate. It is a city of heavy industry and much technology. Visitors tend to either think of it as a wonder of ingenuity or a horrifying rejection of nature and divinity.

Demographics

Dwarves and gnomes make up the majority of the population followed by humans and then a pleathora of various other races. Like in the Conglomarate at large, demographics lean towards the younger side as well as towards more industrious people.

Industry & Trade

The large harbour enables a lot of trade with the rest of the world - especially along the coast. The city itself is well known for its heavy industry and quality production. Tools produced here are known to be of high quality, not to mention the popularity of various machines and clockwork.

Infrastructure

Pumps pull up water at the higher levels of the city and aqueducts throughout that take it, down towards the coast. Underground is a very advanced swer system, and in parallel with that are tunnels for quick transport of important goods or people.

Guilds and Factions

Every type of artisan has its own guild in the city, and their combined influence is much stronger than the actual Conglimarate officials. Since this goes along with Barton ideals, it's not considered a bad thing. The nation's influence is only forced on the city in terms of defences and when actions would threaten the stability of the conglomerate. Otherwise, they are happy to rubber-stamp all guild notions.

History

The city was its own for most of its history, only controlling various nearby areas. It negotiated, some say forced, other cities to become part of the Baratox Conglomerate in 890 SR.

Architecture

Every building in the city tries to show off the genius of its owner. Anything that can be mechanised, has been. Extra details on facades try to add to this impression. Houses are made out of metal as much as they are made out of stone. In a city where everything is supposed to be functional rather than just decoration, the answer has been to make the decorations functional.   The largest recreational area in the city is a gigantic type of clockwork driven by undeground thermic gasses. It has three levels of huge wing-like structures that attach to a central tower. Each wing is a park in itself and moves around the tower at a different speed. The fastest and lowest wing completes one revolution in about 10 hours.

Geography

The city is built on the slope of a mountain as it meets the sea. This means that the inner parts of the city still has a view of the ocean. At least if you're wealthy enough to live in a tall building.
