Chauntea Character in Lost Waves | World Anvil

Chauntea

Goddess of Life

The now Goddess of Life was created before mortal life. She begged Shar and Selûne to allow enough heat for life to develop. This led to the Dawn War but in the end, Amaunator and the sun were created and life was allowed to spread.   In a way, Chauntea is the major creator god, and the one watching over all of the races, beasts, and plants not created by other gods. She does this by trying to maintain balance and food for everyone. This makes her a staunch ally of nature spirits, but she also takes an interest in those living in cities. However, illness and death are natural parts of life, and while Chauntea doesn't always like it, she knows that they are necessary.   While Chauntea's very existence is arguably what caused a cosmic war, she has since kept her influence to more minor details. This has led many to dismiss her as not very powerful but, in truth, all of her many threads have arguably contributed more to the wellbeing of mortals than several of the other gods combined.

Life, Light, Healing, Agriculture, Food. Anything that nurture and aid growth fall under Chauntea's protection. There are regions of the world where this is taken to include active defence, but for the most part, her ways are more gentle.

Tenets of Faith

  • Respect all forms of life.
  • Foster life to grow, physically, mentally, and spiritually, where you can.
  • Protect budding life until it can fend for itself.
  • Punish those who kill without reason.

Mental characteristics

Intellectual Characteristics

Chauntea is almost always calm and gentle in all things she does. Even when life is about the violent death of another, the Mother of All will attempt to be a soothing voice. But that doesn't mean that she doesn't encourage violence at times. In her mind, life must be protected at all costs. Sometimes that means letting some suffer and become food, hosts for parasites, or be culled to let others grow.

Morality & Philosophy

Life needs a chance to grow, and Chauntea sees herself as a protector of the weak and the young, further endearing her to most commoners. She is already the favoured deity of farmers as well as anyone else who might have livestock.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Mielikki was created by Chauntea but has since grown to become a full deity in her own right. The two of them still remain close allies. The strong ties to what nature needs to produce life also mean the goddess also has strong ties to Ariel, and to some extent Amaunator and Corellon.   Shar tried to kill Chauntea almost as soon as the latter was created, which hasn't endeared them to each other. But the goddess of life isn't one to hold grudges and she can understand the benefits of darkness for life to appreciate the light. She has bigger issues with those simply intent on death and destruction, such as Gruumsh, The Onyx Knight, Asmodeus, and Tiamat. Not to mention her hatred for most demons.   The relationship with the Raven Queen is a complicated one. They are both strong allies who protect the circle of life, and polar opposites in what they think is important. A part of what might be called a truce is that the Raven Queen mostly has influence over the actual death and departure of the soul, while Chauntea focuses on the creation of life and the return of the body to the food chain.
