Farhad Esfandiyar Haghigat Character in The Works of Johannes T. Evans | World Anvil

Farhad Esfandiyar Haghigat

Farhad Esfandiyar was born in the summer of 1958, to Dariush and Khorshid, an aerospace engineer and immunologist respectively, who had moved the family to California in the early seventies. Farhad was the second eldest of four siblings, until his older brother, Nima, died after a skateboarding accident led to a severe head injury. He had two younger sisters, Anusha and Necar.   At the age of 19, Farhad made the decision to go to university to study architecture, wanting to make the move across the country because he knew that his parents would disapprove of his being gay, and he was struggling to remain closeted so close to them. In the holiday break before his graduation, he made the decision to come out to his parents, who insisted on cutting off ties with him, and the only member of his family to attend his graduation was his youngest sister, Necar, who attended in secret.   A few years later, whilst working as an architect, he contracted what was then known as the AIDs virus, in 1985. He met Jean-Pierre Delacroix in '86, and the two became romantically involved, until Farhad's death after a sustained pneumonia in '89. He was 31 years old.
