Edlak

Edlak is a non mortal condition caused by bites of lava insect located in lava lakes. This disease only afects Humans. Kreanes and Zetoni seem to be immune to this disease, and while it is not know why they are not affected, people believe that it is because they have something that makes them immune to poison and this disease, as it very rare to see one of them being poisoned.

Transmission & Vectors

This disease is transmitted by insects that live near (or sometimes inside) lava lake. These insects do not usually get near Humans settlements, they prefer to be as near as possible to the lava lake, they get near Humans mostly when they are in Viriik plumage or when Humans get too close to the lava lake.

Symptoms

The first symptom of this disease is red spots near the bite of the insect that slowly expand to the rest of the infected body. When the red spots are all over the body, the skin of the infectes starts to dry up and turns irritating. If the disease is not cured in time, the dried skin will start to crumple and falling.

Treatment

Treatment has been found out relative developed. It is a mix of Viriiks' Gliik and the blood of these insects. The mix of both substances seem to reduce symptoms and after various uses of this treatment, the disease disappears completely.

Sequela

While the disease can be completely cured, skin does not fully recover. The infected skin will always be more dried than normal, and it needs to be constantly hidratated so it does not crumple.

Social impact

Humans had to create special suits to get near lava so they do not when bitten by these insects. Kreanes and Zetoni use this suits as well even thought they are not affected by this disease.
Lavimals always wear a jar with the treatment for this disease to apply on people that have been bitten even if they are unsure that it was the lava insects.
