The Limani Supplies Dealer organisation is very adamant about practicing security. In a business where having information on competitors or about the goods being transported from one point to another, it is not strange that they want their merchants to be careful and prevent this knowledge from getting into the wrong hands. For that reason, they have developed a code to safely communicate over text and maps without giving away any sensitive intelligence.

History

According to the company, the merchant code has worked many times in preventing the loss of trading goods and merchants alike. They claim that many thieves have been left stranded in weird places and random woodlands of Eshil waiting for a supposed caravan of wares to pass by the road after they had intercepted a few messages or managed to snatch a map from a merchant. It is because of these thieving bands of misfits that they developed the code in the first place.
When the Limani Supplies Dealer had grown into a formidable trading company, they noticed many merchants gone missing or trading wares being stolen. They investigated the matter and noticed how easy it was to obtain sensitive information regarding trading routes and wares going over these routes. They hired a linguist, a cryptographer, and grabbed a handful of their best merchants to come up with a suitable solution. From that group of pioneers, the merchant code was born.
How this code works exactly is only known by those working for the company. Even then, one only learns about the code when they have proven themselves to be a trustworthy merchant.

Pieces of the Code

The Merchant Code uses mundane words that can easily be put into a sentence or on a map with little context. Combining code words can reveal more specific information. A few examples have been discovered after talking with Barnabas Stripepaw when one has sufficient reputation.
