Chapter 26 DECEIVED BY THE HEART

Truly the hearts of the sons of men are full of evil; madness is in their hearts while they live …   ECCLESIASTES 9:3 NKJV
The heart both feeds and is fed by the body. It provides willpower and intention, and in return, is the recipient of being fed joy, happiness, pleasure. Tasting pleasure, the human heart then derives strength from acquiring more of this pleasure. This simple cycle can be seen in effect when a child discovers something tasty such as a peach. Upon tasting, the heart quickly provides the willpower to acquire more, and upon each acquisition, is temporarily satisfied. Precisely the same effect can be observed when the child discovers candy. In both instances, the heart provides the willpower to acquire more. It doesn’t matter if the pleasure is good or bad; the heart makes no distinction. Sex, whether within marriage or with a prostitute, can feed the cycle in the same way, with the heart providing the intentionality to acquire more without moral prejudice. This symbiotic relationship puts the heart in a unique position to take their host captive, especially those spirit-dead. The heart’s place in the human construct makes it capable of deceiving its host, and for the most part, it does this without detection.
…when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.   JAMES 1:13-15 NLT
