The Yna

Horse shifters of the Great Plains

This article is a stub. Please comment if you would like it to become a priority for expansion.
The Yna are one of several tribes of shapeshifters that make their home on the Great Plains of Akara. They shapeshift into horses. They are semi-nomadic, although they have territory they tend to stick to, travelling between the same three spots throughout the year. There are permanent structures in each of these locations.   They have a close relationship with the Marir, a tribe of humans who breed and raise horses, specifically the Marir eurus. In return for their expertise with horses (minus riding), the Marir supply the Yna with staple foods, especially throughout the winter months.   In Yna culture, letting another person ride one's horse form is a sign of intimate trust. The Yna themselves do not ride.

I’m surprised that they ever let their horse forms be ridden; it must be a rare and exceptional occurrence.

Yes, it is not common at all.
