The Imthic are freshwater merfolk that live in the southern stretch of the Valkea river, where it winds through the rainforest on its way to the ocean. They also live in its wide, slow-moving lower tributaries.
They raise their children in shallow areas of almost permanently flooded forest, away from the depths of the main river where dangerous predators lurk. In the short months where these nursery pools dry up, raising children becomes a lot more risky.
