The Hutsai

Rulers of an empire

This article is a stub. Please comment if you would like it to become a priority for expansion.
The Hutsai are the native inhabitants of Hutsaih, the nucleus of the Hutsai Empire. Historically a country of peaceful fisherfolk clustered around the delta of the Yanxia river, they are now known for their martial prowess and insatiable appetite for conquest. They are currently spread all over the north of the continent of Oyekos, their expansion only inhibited by the mountain range known as the Shards.   The Hutsai follow a polytheistic religion with an extensive pantheon, ruled over by the Father, the spiritual embodiment of the Yanxia river. The spark for the Hutsai Empire was ignited almost three hundred years ago when the then king claimed to have intense religious visions urging him to unite Oyekos under one banner.

I love a good empire; do they have any plans for overseas expansion, given their fishing background?

They have tried a few times, but they have always been rebuffed. One day they might succeed, though.

I found this article while working on my New Year's resolution, and even though it is very short, it has a rather strong hook for me. A peaceful fisherfolk, I picture them sitting in a makeshift chair by the river, a piece of straw in their mouth while fishing. But then, these people suddenly gained an unsatiable appetite for conquest. This is striking and hooks me in with questions. What could bring these people to have this sudden change of heart? How would a fisher-people wage war? Have they had any successes, or regrets? I like this article, these questions I will ask myself when I think about my own 'people' this year. Thanks for the short, yet inspiring article!

Thank you so much. They are a very interesting people to me, and I'm looking forward to developing them more. I think the whims of government have had a great influence on them. They are more powerful now, but I don't now that they're happier.

I'd love to see what kind of Pantheon of gods a group of peaceful fisherfolk would be drawn to. I can image it being quite drastically different from the Greek or Roman pantheon :0

Yes, they're going to be really fun to worldbuild, I think! :)
