The Anglish are the inhabitants of the island of Anglas. They are a mixture of shapeshifters and humans that have considered themselves one people for over two thousand years. It is said that they came together after a series of devastating eruptions, though there is no surviving written documentation of that time - only stories. Remnants of their ancestral cultures, the Quen and the Angles, can still be seen in the rituals, beliefs, and traditions that the Anglish still follow today.
They are a matrilineal society. Their current royal family has been ruling for over eight hundred years. To find a partner for the crown princess, a year long tournament is held after the princess comes of age. The person who wins the tournament is not necessarily the one who will win the princess's heart, but will expose her to a variety of individuals and allow her to make an informed choice alongside her family.
