Phineas Greystone Character in Etrea | World Anvil

Phineas Greystone

WIP - Summer Camp 2023

Phineas Albion Greystone is a human academic who lives and works at the Royal University in Kaien. He considers himself to be an anthropologist and naturalist, and dabbles in a number of other fields. Now in his early fifties, he still travels the world, learning and writing about the different people and places of Etrea.   His place of birth is unknown, but is suspected to be a small village in rural Kaien. He is quite close-lipped about his personal history, and none of his colleagues know anything other than he turned up at the university about a decade ago.   He does not have any family or close friends, and has never been observed to engage in flirting or romance.   He has pale skin, short dark hair, a neat pointed beard, and dazzling blue eyes. He is relatively tall and skinny and is always dressed impeccably.   He is responsible for seminal works on several remote cultures, but his works are not without controversy. Though his tone is often enthusiastic, he also manages to come across as rather scathing of norms and traditions that are different from his own. In particular, some of his writings on women have inspired strong rebuttals from some of his female colleagues.   He is talented at languages, though he often downplays it and lets people talk in front of him when they think he cannot understand. On the other hand, sometimes he pretends to understand much more than he actually does.   He often comes across as quite arrogant and stand-offish, but this is (mostly) a mask. He does believe that his own culture is superior to others, and that comes across in his writing and mannerisms much of the time.   He has a dead plant in the corner of his office. It died whilst he was away on one of his adventures and he has not yet bothered to replace it. He thinks it adds charm.   His most controversial theory is that multiple universes exist.
